Yu Tung Road (裕東路) is a a road located in Tung Chung, Islands District, New Territories. It starts from Tung Chung Eastern Interchange in the east and ends at Chung Mun Road near Mun Tung Estate, with two-way east-westbound separated traffic. It has a length of 2090 metres and is the longest road in Tung Chung New Town.

History[]

Yu Tung Road, an early road in Tung Chung New Town, was gazetted on 25 April 1997[2] and opened to traffic on 22 May 1997[1], with only the section between Shun Tung Road and Tung Chung Eastern Interchange.

In 1999, Yu Tung Road was extended westward by 1,400 metres to Chung Mun Road and gazetted on 9 July.[3]

Usage situation[]

Yu Tung Road connects the North Lantau Highway and Shun Tung Road, and is used by a number of North Lantau External Routes to and from Chek Lap Kok. In addition, it is an essential route for Tung Chung West, Tung Chung South and the whole of South Lantau to travel to and from Tung Chung town centre and other districts, with dozens of routes passing through it, including New Lantao Bus routes serving Tung Chung, most of the North Lantau External Route (i.e. "E" Routes) and the Airport Shuttle Routes (i.e. "S" Routes), of which Citybus Routes E11B and E21B, and the LWB Route E31 run eastbound via the whole section of Yu Tung Road but with a detour via Shun Tung Road and Tat Tung Road, while Citybus Route E11S also runs eastbound via the whole section of Yu Tung Road but with a detour via Yat Tung Estate Bus Terminus, and Citybus Route E22S and LWB Route E36A run via the whole section of Yu Tung Road directly for both directions.
