Ying Tung Estate (迎東邨[Remark 1][Remark 2], Citybus Location Code YTE) bus terminus is located opposite to Ying Fook House and Ying Chui House of Ying Tung Estate, 12 Ying Tung Road, Tung Chung North, Islands District, New Territories. It is an on-street bus stop and bus terminus with parking bays on both sides of that section of Ying Tung Road.

The bus terminus is located on-street beside the lanes, with three franchised bus pick-up and drop-off points on westbound lanes and also franchised bus stops located on the eastbound lanes. After reaching the eastbound stop, buses must turn around and return at the loop east of Ying Yuet House.

History[]

Located in Tung Chung North, North Lantau, the construction of Ying Tung Estate commenced in 2012 and was originally expected to welcome its first batch of tenants in 2016, which was eventually deferred to 14 March 2018 for occupation.

Bus services[]

In view of the approaching occupation date of Ying Tung Estate, the Transport Department (TD) submitted a paper to the Traffic and Transport Committee (TTC) of the Islands District Council in November 2016 proposing to implement a series of bus route modifications to facilitate residents' access to the estate upon its occupation, which was endorsed by the Committee. The bus companies have subsequently introduced new routes and made changes to existing routes as set out below:[1]

  • 1 January 2017: The terminus of NLB Route 37H in Tung Chung North was relocated from Caribbean Coast to this terminus.
  • 16 February 2017: the terminus of NLB Route 37 in Tung Chung North was relocated from Caribbean Coast to this terminus[2]; Route 37M was also relocated to this terminus on the same day.[3]
  • 27 February 2017: Citybus Routes S56 to Airport, as well as Routes E21X and E22S detoured via this terminus.[4]
  • 25 March 2017: Long Win Bus added a new route E32A to operate between Tung Chung North and Tsuen Wan and Kwai Fong during morning and evening peak hours every day, with return trips via this terminus; and the departures of Route E31 after the morning peak hour also detoured via this terminus, making it the first whole-day North Lantau External Route serving Ying Tung Estate.[5]

To cope with the population growth in the Tung Chung North New Development Area and the area around Mun Tung Estate in Tung Chung West, the Transport Department and the bus companies have put forward a series of bus service improvement proposals in their 2017-2018 Bus Route Planning Programme, which are briefly described below:

  • Introduction of Route N37 between this stop and Tung Chung Station during late night hours, which has been put into service on 17 May 2018[6];
  • Introduction of Route S52A from Tung Chung North (Wai Tung Road) to Aircraft Maintenance Area via this station during the morning peak hours and from Aircraft Maintenance Area to Ying Hei Road via this stop during the afternoon peak hours, which was put into service on 23 July 2018;
  • Re-organisation scheme involving services between Tung Chung, Tsing Yi, Tsuen Wan and Kwai Fong by LWB which was implemented on 2 February 2019:
    • Route E31 was detoured via Mun Tung Estate instead of Tung Chung North and the frequency was adjusted accordingly;
    • Route E32A was upgraded to a whole-day service and the frequency during the morning peak period was increased from the original proposal of every 20 minutes to every 15 minutes;
  • Despite the Transport Department's view that there are not many passengers travelling from Tung Chung North to Tsing Yi, LWB has also re-routed the special departure of Route E42 from Yat Tung Estate during the morning peak hours to Tung Chung North and named it as Route E42P on 18 February 2019, so as to allow Tung Chung North residents to travel directly to Tsing Yi during the morning peak hours, and to travel to and from the area via the Octopus interchange concessions between Route E32A and Routes E31, E32 and E42 during the other periods of time Tung Chung North and Tsing Yi;
  • In response to passenger demand, departures from Tung Chung of Routes E31 and E32A were enhanced on Monday to Friday mornings with effect from 26 April 2019, and the frequency of Route E42P was also increased to four trips on Mondays to Fridays and three trips on Saturdays on the same day as well.
