The Volvo Super Olympian, also known as the Volvo B10TL, is a double-decker, low-floor bus chassis manufactured by Volvo. The chassis was adapted from the Volvo Olympian and debuted at the Asia/Pacific Urban Transport Expo 1998 in Hong Kong.
From 1998 to 2004, 795 Super Olympian buses were produced for Hong Kong; all have now been retired.
KMB fleet[]
KMB used to own three different bodies of Volvo Super Olympian buses, namely the Alexander ALX500 body, the Volgren CR223LD body and the Wright Explorer body, totalling 692 buses, which were one of the mainstays of KMB's double-decker bus fleet.
KMB started to introduce this bus model in August 1999 and purchased a total of 592 Super Olympian buses between 1999 and 2002, of which 492 were the 12-metre version (with fleet number starting with 3ASV) and the remaining 100 were the 10.6-metre version (with fleet number starting with ASV, of which KU5862 was a demonstrator bus and the last batch of 26 were delayed for registration) is officially known as the "Century Bus" as it mainly serves cross-harbour tunnel routes and some trunk routes.
Except for the 21 12-metre version with Australian Volgren body in 2002 and the 100 12-metre version with British Wright Explorer body in 2003, the rest of the buses are equipped with British Alexander ALX500 body. The first batch of 61 buses used plastic destination plates for route display, while the electronic destination signs were used for the buses of this model that have been in service since 2000, and the Volvo Super Olympian buses that have been in service since late June 2001 are powered by Volvo's D10A-285 EM-EC01 engines, which are compliant with the European Union's Euro III emission standards, thus greatly reducing the amount of hazardous substances in the exhaust air.
Although the power output and torque of the bus have been increased from 245hp and 1050Nm to 285hp and 1220Nm respectively, the bus still lacks in uphill and steering ability. Therefore, the Kowloon Bay Depot (K), which has to operate more routes via Tsz Wan Shan, Four Shun and Chai Wan Road long uphill slope, has made special mechanical adjustments to these buses to make them more capable of coping with the steepness of the roads in these areas.

3ASV3[]
Chassis number: YV3S1E116XC050003
KMB's first Volvo Super Olympian was commissioned in August 1999, numbered 3ASV3, plate number JE1672, with wide-body Lazzerini seats and plastic route plates. The black surface under the lower windscreen and the bonnet used to bear the English nameplate "Super Olympian", which was the only bus in KMB to bear such a sign, but it was removed due to a traffic accident in the mid-2000s. In recent years, the water plate has appeared on a number of production buses, but all of them are imitations[5][6].
It was deployed to four depots during its service period, serving routes 69M, 111 and 269B. After entering service in 1999, it was first assigned to Sha Tin Depot (S). It was transferred to Lai Chi Kok Depot (L) for further service on route 39M and was retired from service on 11 August 2017 after operating on route 2E towards the end of its service life.[7]

ASV50[]
Chassis number: YV3S1E114XC050002
ASV50 was the 10.6-metre version demonstrator bus, which was assembled in 1999 and shipped by the depot to an overseas exhibition, thus delaying its arrival in Hong Kong for registration in 2002. It was the only vehicle in the fleet to use the ZF Ecomat 4HP590 four-speed gearbox.
It was the only vehicle in the fleet with ZF Ecomat 4HP590 4-speed gearbox. After being licensed, the bus was attached to Lai Chi Kok Depot (L) and used to serve routes 2C, 32M, 34 and 110. They were transferred to Sha Tin Depot (S) in February 2016, then to Kowloon Bay Depot (K) in June 2019 and then to Tuen Mun Depot (U) in July. It was transferred to Sha Tin Depot (S) in June 2020 and was a scheduled bus for Route 81K.
The interior lighting system of this bus was replaced with white light emitting diode (LED) lighting in 2016.
As heavy commercial vehicles imported since 1 October 2001 were required to comply with the Euro III emission standards, but this bus has only reached the Euro II emission level, which is not in compliance with the licensing requirement, the Transport Department (TD) has purposely granted an exemption to allow this bus to be licensed.
Starting from 31 December 2015, as the Government upgraded the emission requirement of the Low Emission Zone for franchised buses from Euro III to Euro IV, the ASV50 could not be retrofitted with a selective catalytic reduction device due to space constraints, and hence could not be driven into the Low Emission Zone under normal circumstances.[8]
On 28 October 2020, the ASV50 was retired from service after running Route 77K, signifying that no more Euro II franchised buses operating in Hong Kong.
