'The Volvo B7RLE is a low-level bus chassis produced by Volvo in Sweden. It belongs to the branch of the B7R chassis of the same factory and was launched in 2001.
Design[]
The Volvo B7RLE chassis basically combines the front part of the Volvo B7L and the tail axle to the engine part of the Volvo B7R. It can be powered by either the D7C or D7E engine.
Like the Volvo B7R, this chassis can be pre-made into an integral bus or be equipped with a body from a separate manufacturer.
The Volvo B7RLE can be equipped with different bodywork (such as Alexander Dennis Enviro300), and some are equipped with the Volvo 8700LE body.
Bus fleet[]
Kowloon Motor Bus[]
In 2009, KMB purchased 40 Volvo B7RLE with Evolution body and Euro V engine produced by Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles Group (MCV) of Egypt. The buses have initially had 35 seats and a standee capacity of 43. Thus, they are suitable for dispatching routes with low passenger volume to save double-decker bus resources. After post-delivery inspection, the number of seats in the bus was revised to 40 to meet the requirements of the Transport Department for the maximum weight of two-axle vehicles (16 tons).
Since 2013, KMB has gradually implemented the reorganisation of its New Territories and Kowloon routes, canceling or reorganizing routes with low passenger volume, so that this batch of buses, like most single deck models have gradually become redundant in the fleet. In order to make good use of resources, KMB has arranged for this batch of buses to support routes with high passenger volume as overtime buses since 2015. However, the above method is only a drop in the bucket. KMB decided to issue a tender in mid-February 2016, inviting buyers to buy 40 single-decker buses (including ASB, ASC and AVC). It is the first time that KMB attempted to sell its fleet under non-special circumstances. Despite this, there were no interested buyers (even from coach companies). All buses have received LED interior lighting since September 2016; since 2017, guardrails have been added to the alighting doors. These buses also regularly receive full body advertising wraps.
In response to ban of Euro II diesel commercial vehicles being re-registered effective December 31, 2017, KMB changed its mind in early 2017 and decided to convert some Volvo B7RLEs into permanent training buses. These would replace the oldest training buses (being older high floor double deck models). AVC10 (PE9416) received the relevant works at KMB Tuen Mun Depot at the end of March, which included removing most passenger seats and standee handles, alongside installing an instructor's seat and an instructor's handbrake.
Because the hand brake lever is behind the driver's seat, it is difficult to activate and release the hand brake. From October 2018, the relevant bus models have had the hand brake relocated. AVC68 (RK3246) has completed the relevant modification project and the installation of closed-circuit television cameras.
In April 2019, the passenger seats of AVC13 (PF6731) were removed, the rear -window was modified into a heat dissipation shutter and a shore power generation system was installed to operate interactive game equipment without the engine. It was later wrapped with the Stop and Listen livery for KMB's 86th Anniversary celebrations. After a comprehensive refurbishment, AVC13 became the "KMB Safety Bus" and visited the community and schools. Moreover, the game equipment required removal of some side windows so that interactive game stations could be installed inside the bus.
AVC1-40[]
In 2009, KMB purchased 40 Volvo B7RLE with Evolution body and Euro V engine produced by Egyptian Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles Group (MCV) and use Hanover flip dot displays. The first batch of buses began to be shipped to Hong Kong in November 2009. One of the earliest chassis numbered AVC2 uses the Euro IV engine. This bus was one of the earliest built and thus was shipped with the order.
After arriving in Hong Kong, the agent needs to take time to modify the design of the suspension system, so as to reduce the risk of the bus getting stuck on sharp inclines. On 31 March 2010, AVC1 and 2 entered service on route 273.
All of these buses use Vogelsitze 400/6 seats, of which AVC1-17 and 38-40 use peach rose pattern, and the rest use Bus Boy patterns. The doors are all of the Deans brand.
Among them, AVC1-40 uses a twist-type (lever) door switch to operate the door switch, and AVC41-70 use standard buttons to operate the doors.
Since 31 December 2019, because the government has raised the minimum diesel engine emissions requirements for franchised buses in the Low Emissions Zone from Euro IV to Euro V, AVC2 has become the only Volvo B7RLE that does not meet these requirements. As such, it does not operate any routes in the Low Emissions Zone as of January 1, 2020 under normal circumstances.

AVC41-70[]
At the same time that the first batch of Volvo B7RLE’s began to arrive in Hong Kong, KMB ordered 30 Volvo B7RLES with MCV Evolution body and EU Type 5 engine from Volvo.Except for the switch to Ventura doors, the specifications are similar to the first batch, and they have already been shipped to Hong Kong at the end of 2010.
Due to the issue of vehicle quotas, these AVCs were once parked at KMB Yuet Lun Street Depot and KMB Tai Po Depot for a long time without being licensed to drive. It was not until the end of 2011 that the buses were issued one after another, and the last three were issued on 22 May 2012.
Among them, AVC1-40 uses a twisting door switch to operate the door switch, while AVC41-70 uses a push-type door switch to operate the door switch.
In line with KMB's opening of hospital shuttle routes 14H and 32H, AVC65, AVC67, AVC69 andAVC70 were modified in early March 2018, including the replacement of the seat leather case with the Bus Boy family pattern, which is set on the right front axle. The seats behind the wheel arches were removed and an additional wheelchair parking area was installed. After the modification, the passenger capacity of the whole car increased by 1 person. [1]
At the end of December 2019, AVC51 was replaced with an orange Hannover electric brand.[2][3]
