Hong Kong Buses Wiki

Tung Chung Waterfront Road (東涌海濱路[Remark 1][Remark 2]) is a road located in Tung Chung, Islands District. It starts from the intersection with Yi Tung Road and Ying Hei Road in the east and ends at the roundabout with Chek Lap Kok South Road and Shun Tung Road, with intersections with North Lantau Highway and Wai Tung Road on the way, which has a length of 1080 metres and is a two-way east-westbound separated road.

History[]

Tung Chung Waterfront Road was opened to traffic in two phases. The first phase, a 500-metre section from the Shun Tung Road/Chek Lap Kok South Road intersection roundabout to the pier roundabout, was gazetted on 25 April 1997[2] and opened to traffic on 22 May[1]. The following year, Tung Chung Waterfront Road was extended by 580 metres to Yi Tung Road and gazetted on 19 June.[3]

In January 2016, the Government released the draft Outline Zoning Plan for Tung Chung New Town Extension, which planned to incorporate Tung Chung Waterfront Road, together with Ying Hei Road to the east, into the planned Road P1 (P1路) connecting Tung Chung North, Tung Chung East and Tai Ho, and to install noise barriers and build footbridges along the route.
