Hong Kong Buses Wiki

Tung Chung Fire Station (東涌消防局) bus stop is located outside Tung Chung Fire Station cum Ambulance Depot, near Tung Shing House Fu Tung Estate and before the intersection with Tat Tung Road on westbound Shun Tung Road, Tung Chung Town Centre, Islands District, New Territories.

When the Citybus stop reporter system announces this stop, the screen displays the stop name of " Tung Chung Fire Station, Fu Tung Estate, Yu Tung Court" (東涌消防局、富東邨、裕東苑), as well as the additional message of " For Citygate and Tung Chung Station , please alight at this stop." (前往東薈城及東涌站 ,請於此站下車)[Remark 1]; this additional message is not announced on Routes S52 and S52P.

Except for routes departing from Yat Tung Estate, after the LWB stop announcement system announces this stop, the screen will display the additional information of "前往東薈城或纜車", "站"[Remark 2], "請於下站下車"[Remark 3]

Currently, this is the first en-route stop in Tung Chung for most North Lantau External Routes heading to the Airport; coupled with the fact that the Tung Chung Fire Station is adjacent to a number of housing estates, many buses will have a large number of passengers alighting immediately upon arrival at the stop, and during peak hours, there may even be a queue of buses waiting for a bus to call at the stop. Citybus Route E11B towards Hong Kong Island, Route E21B towards Kowloon and NLB Route B6 towards Mun Tung Estate pass through this section of the road and go westbound along East Road without stopping at this bus stop, and passengers use "Yu Tung Court" stop located across the road.

History[]

With the opening of the Lantau Link on 22 May 1997 and the introduction of routes E21 and E31 by Citybus and Long Win Bus respectively, this stop entered service as the first stop in Tung Chung for both routes towards Tung Chung Town Centre. Subsequently, with the opening of the new airport and the expansion of new towns, a number of routes connecting the Airport and Tung Chung came into service and also stopped at this station.

The name of this stop has changed many times. In December 1999, this stop was named as "Fu Tung Estate" (富東邨) with the stop on the opposite side of the road; both stops were renamed as "Tung Chung Fire Station"; in early February 2001, and was renamed as "Fu Tung Estate" again in early February 2001; and in early May 2007, it was renamed as "Tung Chung Fire Station" independently. As for Long Win Bus, the bus stop was initially named as "Yu Tung Court", which is the same as that across the street. In January 2004, it was renamed as "Tung Chung Fire Station", and the numbering of the bus stop post was changed from "ST02-W-0050-2" to "SH70-W-1000-2", which has been in use since then.

Before 29 November 2010, except for routes departing from Yat Tung Estate, the screen of LWB stop announcement system will display the additional information of "前往東薈城", "或東涌鐵路站"[Remark 4], "請於下站下車"[Remark 5], after announcing the name of the stop.

Besides, before 27 November 2017, except for routes departing from Yat Tung Estate, when the Citybus Stop Announcement System announces this stop, the screen displays "Tung Chung Fire Station, Citygate" ( 東涌消防局、東薈城), without adding any additional information.

A stop shelter built by LWB has been in use at this stop since its inception. In late 2016, work commenced on the provision of an additional footway cover alongside to cover this station to the front of the pedestrian crossing in front of it; the relevant works were completed in July 2017.
