Tsing Yi Ferry Bus Terminus (青衣碼頭巴士總站[Remark 1][Remark 2]) is an open-air bus and minibus terminus with parallel platform design located off Tsing Yi Public Pier, adjacent to Serene Garden, Tivoli Garden and Greenfield Garden at Fung Shue Wo Road, Tsing Yi, Kwai Tsing District, New Territories.

History[]

The former Tsing Yi Pier was situated opposite the old Tsing Yi Main Street, approximately where Tsing Yi Park now stands near Po Leung Kuk Castar Primary School. In May 1979, Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) introduced the first generation Route 43B, operating between the former Tsing Yi Ferry Pier and Cheung Ching, which was ceased in June 1980.

During the early 1980s, the Government undertook reclamation works on Tsing Yi Island, filling in parts of the bay and Tsing Yi Ferry Pier was consequently relocated to its present site in 1986. The newly constructed bus terminus opposite the ferry concourse commenced operations on 31 May of the same year[1], with Route 44 serving this stop between June and November 1986. Subsequently introduced Route 44M also operated from this stop during its first two years of service.

The first bus route terminating at Tsing Yi Ferry Pier was KMB Route 49X, launched in October 1990. Three additional peak-hour special routes were subsequently introduced, all terminating at Tsing Yi Ferry Pier. Furthermore, certain Tsing Yi bus routes began operating via Tsing Yi Ferry Pier throughout the day from 1995 onwards.

In April 1992, Route 44 introduced additional morning special services departing from this stop, which were converted into Route 44P in July 1996. On 25 August 2014, Route 44P was discontinued, replaced by Route 44 operating via Tsing Yi Ferry Pier throughout the day.

During the 1990s, the Residents' Bus Route 401R operated between Cheung Hang and Tsing Yi Ferry Pier as a feeder service, which was replaced by the green minibus route 405A in 1996. Due to diminishing demand for ferry interchanges, the minibus service was ultimately discontinued in 2008. Currently, only one GMB route, 401, terminates at Tsing Yi Ferry Pier. Passengers wishing to reach the pier may consider taking bus/GMB routes via Tsing Yi Heung Sze Wui Road or New Territories GMB Route 88B.

Tsing Yi Ferry Pier no longer operates any ferry services - the passenger ferry service between Central and Tsuen Wan via Tsing Yi ceased operations on 1 July 2000 due to severe financial losses.[2]
