Tsing Long Highway (青朗公路) is one of the sections of Route 3 connecting the North West Tsing Yi Interchange at Tsing Yi with Fung Kat Heung at Kam Tin, comprises four major sections, including Ting Kau Bridge, Ting Kau Interchange, Tai Lam Tunnel and Yuen Long Approach Road.
Except for the section within the Tai Lam Tunnel, the remaining sections are expressways and the Yuen Long Approach Road between San Tin Highway and Yuen Long Highway near Fung Kat Heung is included in Route 9.
Most of the bus routes travelling between the urban and Yuen Long districts pass through Tsing Long Highway, while KMB routes 279A, 279X, T270, Cross-Harbour Bus Route 978 series and LWB Route A43 series travelling to and from the North District pass through the whole section of Tsing Long Highway.
History[]

The Tsing Yi to Yuen Long section of Route 3 was commissioned in May 1998 to tie in with the development of new towns in Yuen Long District and the New Territories Circular Road System. On 6 November 1998, the Government gazetted these sections as "Tsing Long Highway". [1]
The Tai Lam Tunnel and the Yuen Long Approach Road are collectively known as the "Route 3 Country Park Section" (三號幹線郊野公園段), abbr. "Route 3 CPS", which originated as a project name during the planning stage of the road network, and was financed by a consortium of SHKP on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, and the company managing this section of the road is called the "Route 3 Country Park Section Company Limited" (三號幹線郊野公園段有限公司).
Structure[]
Ting Kau Bridge[]

The Ting Kau Bridge was first opened to traffic on 6 May 1998 and is currently the longest three-tower cable-stayed bridge in the world.
Tai Lam Tunnel[]
- The main article of this section is Tai Lam Tunnel BBI.
The Tai Lam Tunnel was opened to traffic on 25 May 1998, using a twin-tube, three-lane design, as was the Yuen Long Approach Road. In addition to the tunnel tubes, the road between the Ting Kau Interchange and the Tai Lam Tunnel Interchange is within the boundary of the Tai Lam Tunnel. There is a bus interchange outside the Tai Lam Tunnel toll booth, which is one of the major tunnel interchange stations in Hong Kong.
Neither the Tai Lam Tunnel nor its interchange is part of the expressway. There are slip roads on either side of the Tai Lam Tunnel Interchange connecting to Pat Heung Road.
Yuen Long Approach Road[]
The Yuen Long Approach Road (元朗引路), together with the Tai Lam Tunnel, forms part of the Route 3 Country Park Section and is also the legal name of the at-grade section of Tsing Long Highway in Yuen Long District.
The Yuen Long Approach Road begins at the Tai Lam Tunnel Interchange and extends to the junction of Yuen Long Highway and San Tin Highway, and is now an expressway. The Yuen Long Approach Road bifurcates off Hung Mo Kiu in Kam Tin and heads northbound to Yuen Long Town and Lok Ma Chau in San Tin respectively, with connections to Yuen Long Highway and San Tin Highway. The Yuen Long Approach Road has a one-way portal at Kam Tin to the east of Ko Po Tsuen and connects to Kam Tin Road. Vehicles can enter the tunnel from Kam Tin southbound via the Yuen Long Approach Road, or drive northbound from the tunnel to Kam Tin.
According to government road signs, the expressway at Fung Kat Heung is classified as Tsing Long Highway, not Yuen Long Highway or San Tin Highway, and therefore a small portion of Tsing Long Highway falls within Route 9.
At present, all bus routes passing through the Tai Lam Tunnel pass through the Yuen Long Approach Road. At present, except for Routes 68E, 251M, 268M, 976, N269 and N368 which only pass through the Tai Lam Tunnel BBI to Kam Tin Road, they all pass through most of the Yuen Long Approach Road.
