Tin Wah Road (天華路) is a central road located in Tin Shui Wai New Town, Yuen Long District, New Territories, starting from "Green@Yuen Long" in the east and ending at Lau Fau Shan Road in the west near Sha Kong Wai Tsai, allowing vehicles to travel in both directions east and west.
Since Tin Wah Road separates the two major development areas of Tin Shui Wai New Town, it is recognized as the dividing line between Tin Shui Wai South and Tin Shui Wai North. In addition, the roundabout at the junction of Tin Wah Road and Tin Shui Road is also the only roundabout in Tin Shui Wai New Town.[Remark 1]
History[]
Tin Wah Road is an early road in the Tin Shui Wai New Town. It was gazetted and named on 28 February 1992[1], and was opened to traffic in the same year. At that time, the total length was 1.55 km, only consisting of the section between Tin Ying Road and Tin Tsz Road. In the 1990s, the scope of the new town was only south of Tin Wah Road, while the area north of Tin Wah Road was undeveloped.
On 30 January 2003, a 100m section of Tin Tsz Road that was a part of "Green@Yuen Long" was merged into Tin Wah Road[2]. The 360m section of road from Tin Ying Road to Lau Fau Shan Road was built as early as 1992, but there were "Tin Wah Road" street signs erected along the road. Various housing estates, including the Government Lands Department an the published atlas also generally marked it as "Tin Wah Road". This road was marked as Tin Wah Road on a gazzete for the first time on 10 May 2013.[3]
Situation of use[]
At present, franchised buses only operate on the section from Tin Shui Road to Tin Tsz Road. The return trip of KMB Route 265M goes via the entire section of Tin Wah Road; between Tin Shui Road and Tin Ying Road, the MTR Bus Route K76 series passes between Tin Shui Road and Tin Ying Road to the west of Tin Ying Road. Only GMB Routes 34A and 618 go via this road.
