The Terminal 1 (South) (一號客運大樓 (南), Citybus Location Code PTB) bus stop is located on Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok, New Territories, northbound on Cheong Tat Road outside the Terminal 1. It is a roadside intermediate bus stop.

It is currently referred to as "Terminal 1 (South), Cheong Tat Road" (暢達路(一號客運運大樓)(南)) and "Airport (Passenger Terminal Building)" (機場(客運大樓)) by Long Win Bus (LWB) and New Lantao Bus (NLB) respectively. Besides, the Citybus Motion Bus Stop Display Panel displays the name of this stop as "Airport (Passenger Terminal Building)" (機場(客運大樓)). When the Stop Announcement System announces this stop, the screen displays "Bravobus Stopreporter Bus Logo Terminal 1 South" (1號客運大樓(南)).

All North Lantau External Routes serving Cheong Tat Road omit this stop, passengers can use "Car Park One" bus stop instead.

History[]

When the Hong Kong International Airport was opened, the terminus of NLB Routes A35 and N35 was located at the Ground Transportation Centre (GTC) like other Citybus and LWB Airport routes. As a result of the re-grouping of berths at the Ground Transportation Centre on 11 July 1998, the terminus of the two routes was relocated to the lay-by outside Passenger Terminal 1 on Cheong Tat Road Northbound.

On the other hand, a bus stop named "Car Park 2" was set up at the eastbound section of Cheong Tat Road between Car Park 1 and Car Park 2 [Remark 1] for other routes during the initial opening of the airport. In 2004, with the commencement of the construction works of the SkyPlaza [Remark 2], the Cheong Tat Road between the two car parks was permanently closed on 24 September [1]. All bus routes passing through the area were required to take the section of Temporary Cheong Tat Road east of Carpark 1 [Remark 3][2] to access Cheong Tat Road from that day onwards, and to set up a bus stop on that road, i.e. the existing rear stop. It was initially named "Car Park 1" and "Cheong Tat Road Car Park 1" by Citybus and LWB respectively, while the stop numbering followed that of the "Car Park 2" stop.

Since the opening of Discovery Bay Tunnel in May 2000, Discovery Bay residents can take Route DB02R, the new route operated by Discovery Bay Transit Services Limited, to the Airport. However, as the route is a non-franchised bus route that cannot use the Ground Transportation Centre and that the coach park is always full, Route DB02R has been set up with a pick-up/drop-off point at the northbound side of Cheong Tat Road outside Car Park No. 1 since its inception on 27 May 2012, and was called "Airport (Car Park No. 1)" (機場(一號停車場) until 9 September 2012 when it was relocated to the Coach Station, Terminal 2 on 9 September 2012. [3]

On 11 August 2014, the stops for routes E23, S64 and S64X were relocated northwards by approximately 120 metres to the lay-by outside Terminal 1, behind the stops for routes A35 and N35, and the existing NLB queuing barriers were removed to improve the waiting order [4]. The names of the stops did not follow that of NLB, but followed the old names of "Car Park 1" (Citybus) and "Car Park 1, Cheong Tat Road" (LWB); at the beginning, no stop name was affixed on the stop sign of LWB, but later "Car Park No. 1" was affixed, which was the same as the name of the stop of Citybus; at that time, when this stop was displayed on the bus stop announcement system screen it had to be split into two rows. At that time, when LWB bus stop announcement system displayed the name of this stop, as the space of the screen was insufficient to display the entire name of the stop and the stop could not be displayed in its entirety, it was necessary to display the name of the stop on two separate lines, i.e. "Cheong Tat Road" was displayed first, followed by "Car Park 1".

Citybus and LWB changed the name of the stop outside the car park to "Terminal 1 and Terminal 2" (一號及二號客運大樓) with effect from 28 November 2016 [5][6]. At the beginning of the renaming process, Citybus mispelled the English name of the stop as "Terminal 1 and Termianl 2" on its website. When LWB bus bus stop announcement system displayed this stop, they have to split the display into two rows, i.e. "Cheong Tat Road" and then "Car Park 1", due to insufficient space on the annunciator to display the whole stop name, which is incomplete and has not been updated at any time.

The Airport Authority published the "Hong Kong International Airport Master Plan 2030" in 2011, and the Executive Council took the lead in approving the development plan for the three-runway system in 2015, which includes the renovation of Terminal 2 and the temporary relocation of the coach station, which would be moved back to the extension of Terminal 2 after the completion of the renovation works. The site for the coach drop-off and pick-up area is at Car Park 1, which includes the bus stop outside the car park, meaning that this stop will need to be demolished. The works commenced at 10:00 a.m. on 3 November 2017, and the stop was immediately decommissioned and closed. All affected bus routes were diverted to the stop outside the Terminal 1 [7][8], resulting in a sudden increase in the number of routes using the stop from the original 5 to as many as 30 routes. Both LWB and Citybus changed the name of the stop to "Terminal 1 and Terminal 2" at the same time.

After more than a year of construction, the Coach Station, Car Park 1 was officially opened on 12 February 2019, and the rear stop was put back into operation on 23 July. With the exception of LWB routes S64, S64X, N64 and NLB routes, all other routes, together with Route E23, moved back to the terminal on the same day, while Citybus Route S56 was changed to stop at two consecutive stops [9] at the same time. The stop outside Terminal 1 was reinstated for use only by routes to and from Lantau Island.

On 29 November 2019, due to the temporary closure of Terminal 2 for the commencement of the reconstruction works, Citybus and LWB removed the wording from the name of this station, which was named "一號客運大樓,暢達路" and "暢達路(一號客運大樓)" in Chinese and "Terminal 1, Cheong Tat Road" in English respectively.

Citybus and Long Win Bus changed the name of this stop to "Terminal 1 (South)" (一號客運大樓(南)) and "(Terminal 1) (South), Cheong Tat Road" (暢達路(一號客運大樓)(南)) respectively on 26 November 2023.[10][11]
