The Terminal 1 (一號客運大樓, Citybus Location Code ATO) bus stop is located outside the Terminal 1 on northbound Cheong Hong Road, Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok, Islands District, New Territories. The bus stop is part of the Ground Transportation Centre (GTC) and is located at the Departures Kerb (離港層停車路緣) on the highest level. Passengers alighting at the main entrance of Terminal 1 will enter the Terminal Building and proceed directly to the Passenger Check-in Hall along a number of gently sloping ramps without having to go up or down another level. [1]

The bus stop is located in the drop-off area, with three stops located outside Gate No. 2 (used by Citybus and Long Win Bus (LWB) "A" Routes), behind Gate No. 3 and behind Gate No. 4, but the bus company does not have any stop sign, making it one of the few bus stops in Hong Kong with no stop sign [Remark 1]. All Airport routes (or Airbus Routes in the Schedule of Routes Order) only drop off and pick up passengers at this stop, and do not pick up passengers for boarding to the Ground Transportation Centre/AsiaWorld-Expo/HZMB Hong Kong Port.

Citybus names this stop as "Airport (Terminal One)" (機場(1號客運大樓)).

History[]

Routes passing through this stop used to use the nearby Gate 1, which was named "Airport (Departure Hall- Gate 1)" (機場(離境大堂一號閘口)) and "Airport Passenger Terminal Building Gate 1" (客運大樓一號閘) by Citybus and LWB respectively, to separate it from the bus stop at the nearby Gate 4, which was named "Airport (Departure Hall- Gate 4)" (機場(離境大堂四號閘口)) and "Airport Passenger Terminal Building Gate 4" (客運大樓四號閘) by Citybus and LWB respectively.

The now cancelled Citybus Route P22 originated at this stop, which Citybus once called "Hong Kong International Airport Departure Hall" (香港國際機場離境大堂) before changing to its current name.

Starting from the afternoon of 14 August 2019, due to the Interim Injunction at the airport area, passengers dropping off at this drop-off area who are not holders of departure tickets or boarding passes and airport staff will not be allowed to enter the Passenger Terminal Building. Passengers who are not holders of departure tickets or boarding passes and airport staff will not be allowed to enter the Terminal Building. They would need to take the Airport Terminal Building Shuttle Buses arranged by the Airport Authority (AA) to leave the Airport Terminal Building for the Ground Transportation Centre. The arrangement was withdrawn on 20 November 2020 when the AA revised its control measures.

Surrounding Facilities[]

Terminal 1, Cheong Hong Rd 201703 -1

The left lane at the Departures Kerb is reserved for buses, the right lane is the alighting zone for public vehicles, with canopy in the middle

The bus stop is located outside the entrance of Terminal 1. After alighting and entering Terminal 1, passengers can walk along the gently sloping ramp to the 7th floor and proceed to the passenger check-in section of various airlines for check-in.

Under the three-runway system project, the Airport Authority announced in June 2017 a $7 billion expansion of Terminal 1, which opened on 29 November 2019. The expansion will provide 48 new check-in counters, two baggage claim carousels and other related facilities [2][3][4]. In addition to the above facilities, the departure level drop-off canopy was extended to cover the enlarged vehicle drop-off area. [5][6]
