Tai Po Tai Wo Road (大埔太和路) is a major road in Tai Po District, New Territories. It is located on the north bank of the Lam Tsuen River. It starts from the Tolo Highway near Mui Shue Hang in the west and ends at Yuen Shin Road in the east. The entire road is bidirectional in both east and west directions.
History[]
Tai Po Tai Wo Road was completed and opened to traffic in the 1980s, with the earliest section between Ting Kok Road and Nam Wan Road, which was opened to traffic in 1983, being 855 metres long and gazetted on 13 December of the same year.[1][2]
On 27 January 1984, due to the permanent closure of Kwong Fuk Bridge, a number of routes were diverted to run via Po Heung Bridge and this road, which were the first public transport routes to run via this road.
With the opening of Tolo Highway in 1985, Tai Po Tai Wo Road was extended westwards to become an approach road to Tolo Highway, and the new section was gazetted on 17 July 1987[3]. At the same time, Tai Po Tai Wo Road was extended eastwards to Yuen Shin Road, which was only gazetted on 27 September 1996.[4]
Structure[]
This road is an expressway from Po Nga Road to Tolo Highway, and is one of the few existing expressways that does not incorporate any Strategic Route sections.
