Sheung Tsuen (上村) bus terminus is located within a public carpark north of the intersection between Kam Tin Road and Kam Sheung Road, off Pat Heung Rural Committee and opposite to Sheung Tsuen Park in Sheung Tsuen, Pat Heung, Yuen Long District, New Territories.
History[]
Sheung Tsuen is one of the villages in Yuen Long's Eight Villages, geographically located in Shek Kong. It is situated at the intersections of Kam Tin Road, Kam Sheung Road, Lam Kam Road and Route Twisk, providing access to Tai Po or Tsuen Wan. Sheung Tsuen Bus Terminus is located at a public car park next to the intersection of the four roads, which was officially opened on 16 August 1958 and still retains its rural charm today.
According to official records, Route Twisk, originally reserved for use by the British Forces Hong Kong, was completed on 29 June 1953 but remained closed to the public until 25 May 1961, while Kam Sheung Road was opened to traffic in 1962. As for the Lam Kam Road, it was completed on 28 July 1950 but was not opened to the public until 9 March 1952. The section of Kam Tin Road between Sheung Tsuen Bus Terminus and Fan Kam Road was part of the Lam Kam Road until 29 September 1978.
Bus services[]
On 16 August 1958, KMB Route 19 (now Route 54), which originally had Wang Toi Shan as its terminus, was extended along Lam Kam Road (now Kam Tin Road) to Sheung Tsuen. Despite repeated changes to the route number and the terminus at the other end, the route remained at Sheung Tsuen terminus for more than 50 years.
On 31 March 2012, KMB reorganised part of its bus services in Kam Tin and Pat Heung, and Route 54 ceased to use Sheung Tsuen as its terminus from that day onwards, instead using Pat Heung Old Temple as its circular point to accommodate the establishment of a terminus for Route 251M, which was shortened to Sheung Tsuen from that day onwards. However, from 22 April 2012 onwards, Route 54 resumed its service through this stop and used it as its circular point.
On 4 October 2014, KMB implemented a Yuen Long District "Area Approach" Bus Route Reorganisation, cancelling Route 64P during the morning peak hours to and from Tai Po Market Station via this stop, while the starting point of Route 65K was shortened from this stop to Kadoorie Farm. Additionally, Route 51 was shortened, operating in a circular route between Tsuen Wan West Station and this stop, no longer passing through Kam Tin Town and Kam Sheung Road; The original whole-day Route 251M, which previously operated between Tsing Yi Station and this stop, was significantly reduced to only three one-way trips departing from this stop to Tsuen Wan Station during morning peak hours on weekdays. Concurrently, the new Route 251B commenced operations, operating in a circular between this stop and Pat Heung Road, with interchange concessions available with KMB Tai Lam Tunnel bus routes.
On 21 June 2021, LWB Route E36P commenced service, operating between this stop and the AsiaWorld-Expo with two one-way trips each direction during peak hours on weekdays and passes through Tai Lam Tunnel and Lantau Link, making it the first Long Win Bus route to use this stop.

Stop layout and facilities[]
There are usually other vehicles blocking the entrance to the terminus
Sheung Tsuen Bus Terminus has only one parking space approximately two car lengths wide. Since the public parking spaces adjacent to the terminus share the same entrance and exit, this terminus does not have the same restrictions as urban bus terminals, which only allow franchised buses and vehicles with permits to enter. This design has a drawback: poorly parked private cars or trucks, or even those parked illegally in both directions, can block buses from entering or exiting the terminus (see figure). Therefore, if there are no passengers alighting, some drivers may choose to ‘skip the stop’ to save time. However, since all routes passing through this station now use it as a loop point, such skipping may no longer occur. However, LWB Route E36P heading towards Kam Tin once used this stop as its terminus; to save time or due to the deployment of 12.8-metre buses that could not enter the terminus, some bus captains driving buses towards Sheung Tsuen would choose to unload passengers at the Kam Tin Road roadside or the nearby Pat Heung Old Temple bus stop across the road, rather than entering the terminus.
Additionally, when vehicles leave the terminus, they are only permitted to turn left onto the eastbound lane of Kam Tin Road and are not allowed to turn right onto the westbound lane or proceed straight into Kam Sheung Road. Vehicles heading in either of these directions must turn around at the roundabout where Kam Tin Road, Lam Kam Road and Route Twisk intersect.
Related incidents[]
Obstruction[]
- 30 January 2021: At around 1 p.m., a private car parked illegally at this stop, causing an Enviro200 Dart (AAU22/PZ1073) travelling on Route 51 to be unable to turn due to insufficient space and was forced to stop at the entrance of the terminus, preventing other vehicles from entering the stop and causing traffic congestion in the surrounding area.[1]
