Sha Tsui Road (沙咀道) is a road in the Tsuen Wan Town Centre, Tsuen Wan District, New Territories. It starts from Texaco Road in the east and ends at Castle Peak Road - Tsuen Wan in the west, parallel to Yeung Uk Road and Castle Peak Road - Tsuen Wan, and is a dual two-way east-west road.
Sha Tsui Road is situated in the middle of Tsuen Wan Town Centre and is always busy with traffic, with a flyover at its western end connecting it to Tsuen King Circuit (which is commonly known as the Tsuen King Circuit Flyover), but regular franchised buses only run along the section to the east of Tai Chung Road at present.
History[]
Sha Tsui Road, named after Sha Tsui in Tsuen Wan[Remark 1], was one of the first roads developed in the Tsuen Wan New Town and was opened to traffic in the late 1950s. At that time, only a small section connecting Tai Pak Tin Street to Tai Chung Road was opened to traffic.
The rest of the road was opened to traffic in the 1960s, and the last section across the Tsuen Wan Nullah (now the widened Tai Chung Road) was completed in 1966, which meant that the whole section of Sha Tsui Road was opened to traffic. On 23 November 1962, the whole section of Sha Tsui Road was gazetted.[1]
