The San Tin Highway (新田公路) connects Sha Po Tsuen and San Tin in Yuen Long and forms part of Route 9.
The San Tin Interchange of San Tin Highway and Fanling Highway connects to San Sham Road for travelling to and from Huanggang Port in Shenzhen via San Sham Road, and to Castle Peak Road - San Tin for travelling to and from Lok Ma Chau and other parts of San Tin. The junction at Sha Po Tsuen provides access to Yuen Long Highway or Tsing Long Highway for travelling to and from the urban areas, Tsuen Wan and the Airport.
History[]
San Tin Highway is part of the New Territories Circular Road. The first section (from San Tin Interchange to Fairview Park) was opened to traffic on 1 August 1991 together with the Fanling Highway (Pak Shek Au to San Tin Interchange), which connects to the San Sham Road, allowing cross-boundary passengers to travel to and from Huanggang Port in Shenzhen via the San Sham Road. The section between Sha Po Tsuen and Fairview Park was opened to traffic on 16 January 1993, linking up with the Castle Peak Road - Tam Mi.
To tie in with the Route 3 (Country Park Section) project, the Yuen Long Highway was extended to connect with San Tin Highway and Tsing Long Highway. The project was completed in May 1998, providing direct access to and from Yuen Long Town and the urban areas, Tsuen Wan and the Airport via San Tin Highway, and the connection point at Sha Po Tsuen was permanently closed.
Structure[]
The interchanges of the road section are Tsing Long Highway and Fanling Highway, which are dual three-lane carriageways.
There are two interchanges on San Tin Highway, namely Fairview Park Roundabout, which connects with Fairview Park, and San Tin Interchange, which connects with San Sham Road, linking up with the Lok Ma Chau Control Point and Huanggang Port. In addition, the connection points of San Tin Highway, Yuen Long Highway and Tsing Long Highway are located to the north of Pok Oi Hospital.
