Usage situation[]
As Route 9 is a circular road system, there is no single bus or green minibus route serving the whole of Route 9. However, as Route 9 is the only expressway system running between parts of the Northern New Territories and urban Kowloon (including Fanling Highway in the North District, Tolo Highway in the Tai Po District, and Tuen Mun Road in the Tuen Mun District, etc.), it serves as the route for the majority of the external bus routes running between the various districts in the Northern New Territories. Most of the routes to/from Tsuen Wan/Kwai Tsing and Sha Tin districts pass through the Shing Mun Tunnels, which is part of Route 9. The expressway section of Tuen Mun Road is the busiest section of Route 9 and is heavily trafficked and therefore bus-only lanes are provided to minimise the impact of traffic congestion on buses.
Notes and References[]
- ↑ Highways Department - New Territories Roads
- ↑ 2.0 2.1 As this is a circular road, there is no start and finish point and milestones are counted from here.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 This road extends from Castle Peak Road - Tsuen Wan to the entrance of Shing Mun Tunnels in Tsuen Wan and passes the toll plaza, so the mileage reaches 70.7 and restarts from 0.0.

- ↑ Although this section of Tuen Mun Road is an east-west expressway, according to KMB's Bus-Bus Interchange information, it is a southbound stop heading towards Kowloon, and the actual direction of the headway on the Highways Department's Tuen Mun Road BBI layout plan (note that the upper left side of the plan is north) is also south-east-southwest (with Route 61M going in the opposite direction). In fact, KMB has prefixed the BBI with a separate code number, TU17, which is very different from TU06 on Tuen Mun Road.
