The New Territories Residents' Bus Route NR332 is operated by Park Island Transport (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 11288A). It runs between Park Island and MTR Kwai Fong Station (Metroplaza), which takes the Tsing Ma Bridge, Tsing Yi North Coastal Road and Tsing Tsuen Bridge, with additional detours via MTR Tsing Yi Station during overnight hours.

History[]

  • 11 August 2003: Route NR332 entered service, running between Park Island and Kwai Fong (Metroplaza), via Pak Lai Road and Pak Lam Road.[1]
  • 1 December 2003: Joint headways were provided together with NR330 during overnight hours.[2]
  • 19 September 2016: Kwai Fong terminus was temporarily relocated to Hing Fong Road due to the renovation works at Metroplaza. This arrangement was originally scheduled to be in effect for half a month, which was subsequently extended several times until the completion of works.
  • 1 November 2016: "Intra-island Bus Service Interchange Concession for Elderly and Eligible Persons with Disabilities" was introduced. A $2.0 section fare for this route on Ma Wan Island is waived when connecting to Routes NR331 or NR331S to Tsuen Wan between 10:00-00:50.[3]
  • 1 May 2019: Kwai Fong terminus was relocated back to Metroplaza.[4]
  • 1 May 2020: Only Octopus payments were accepted and no longer accepted cash payments.[5]
  • 4 January 2021: Real-time arrival enquiry service was introduced on this route.[6]
  • 1 May 2021: Detoured via MTR Tsing Yi Station for Kwai Fong direction during overnight hours to replace the service of Route {{RS|NR330} during the period. Passengers boarding at Tsing Yi Station need not leave the bus and can continue the journey to Park Island while arriving at Kwai Fong.[7]
  • 25 September 2022: Public Transport Fare Concession Scheme for the Elderly and Eligible Persons with Disabilities was covered on this route.[8]
  • 1 April 2024: Partial trips during peak hours were changed to operate with low-floor buses as Route NR332A under Sun Bus. [9][10]

  • Passengers are required to pay the fare by Octopus card upon boarding. Cash payments are NOT accepted.
  • Elderly persons aged 65 or above using Elderly Octopus or Personalised Octopus cards and eligible persons with disabilities using Personalised Octopus cards with "Persons with Disabilities Status" can enjoy a flat fare of $2.0 per journey under the Concessionary Fare.

Bus deployments[]

Due to the large height difference at the entrance of Kwai Fong Station terminus, Enviro200 Dart buses will scrape the chassis when entering the terminus on this route, so MAN NL323, Sunlong SLK6112LY/SLK6102 coaches are the main buses used on this route, and Higer KLQ6119Q coaches are used from time to time as well. In the past, Dennis Dart SPD 11.3m and Young Man JNP6122G 12m buses were also used on this route.

Overnight trips only operate via MTR Tsing Yi Station in the direction of Kwai Fong. Passengers boarding the bus at that station can stay on board to return to Park Island when they arrive at MTR Kwai Fong Station, but the bus will stay on board until the scheduled time to continue the journey.

Ridership[]

According to the past related documents, the ridership of this route are as follows:

  • 2007: A survey was conducted by the operator for this route. 1046 passenger trips were made from Park Island to MTR Kwai Fong Station during the evening peak period out of 19 trips.[15]
  • 2013: This route, together with the other residents' bus routes in Ma Wan (NR330, NR331, NR334 and NR338), had an average daily ridership of 23,000 in 2013, with an overall average occupancy rate of about 80%. In addition, this route and NR332 are the two most popular bus routes serving Ma Wan.[16]

According to Transport Department documents, the average daily ridership of this route together with other Ma Wan residents' bus routes (NR330, NR331, NR334 and NR338) was 22,800, 22,500 and 22,500 in 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively.[17]

According to operators cited by netizens, the impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak has led to a 33.2% drop in passenger numbers from January to October 2020 compared to the same period the previous year.[18]

Related incidents[]

  • 18 July 2015: At about 0:45 am, a Dennis Dart (LE5705) bound for MTR Kwai Fong Station reached the junction of Pak Lai Road and Pak Lam Road, where the bus was suspected to have crossed the lane and collided with a taxi. The taxi driver was injured and the bus driver assisted in the investigation.[19]
