Hong Kong Buses Wiki

The New Territories Residents' Bus Route NR330 is operated by Park Island Transport Company Limited (PITCL) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 11288A). It runs between Park Island and MTR Tsing Yi Station[1] via Tsing Ma Bridge and Tsing Yi North Coastal Road.

When the average wind speed exceeds 65 km/h, the Tsing Ma Control Area of Tsing Ma Bridge will implement strong wind traffic management and prohibit vehicles exceeding 1.6 metres in height from travelling on the upper deck[2]; KMB will then arrange for single-deck buses to operate on temporary route Y41, using three types of single-decker buses[3] that are specifically permitted by the Transport Department to operate when the upper deck is closed, in conjunction with Route NR330, to serve residents returning to Park Island.

History[]

  • 14 December 2002: Route NR330 entered service staring from 10:00am[4], running between Park Island and Tsing Yi AR Station via Ma Wan Road, Pak Lai Road and Pak Lam Road which opened to traffic on the same day, with a fare of $7.0 and concession fare of $4.5.[5][6] It is the first ever public transport service on Ma Wan Island.[7][8]
  • 22 April 2003: Terminus at Tsing Yi AR Station was relocated to the public transport interchange outside Exit C from Exit A1 (beneath Tsing Tsuen Bridge) since 05:25.[9]
  • 1 December 2003: Joint headways were provided together with NR332 during overnight hours.[10]
  • 1 November 2016: "Intra-island Bus Service Interchange Concession for Elderly and Eligible Persons with Disabilities" was introduced. A $2.0 section fare for this route on Ma Wan Island is waived when connecting to Routes NR331 or NR331S to Tsuen Wan between 10:00-00:50.[11]
  • 10 February to 31 March 2020: Tsing Yi terminus was temporarily relocated to the franchised bus part of the PTI.[12][13][14]
  • 4 January 2021: Real-time arrival enquiry service was introduced on this route.[15]
  • 1 May 2020: Only Octopus payments were accepted and no longer accepted cash payments.[16]
  • 1 May 2021: Overnight services were cancelled and replaced by overnight departures of Route NR332 observing MTR Tsing Yi Station.[17]

Ridership[]

This route provides convenience for Ma Wan residents to travel to Tsing Yi to connect with the MTR and franchised buses to the city, or to buy daily necessities, so the passenger volume has been high. Just only PITCL fleet is not even enough to cope with the demand and had to require Sun Bus to send fleet to support the demand.

According to the past related documents, the ridership of this route are as follows:

  • 2007: A survey was conducted by the operator for this route. 1982 trips were made from Park Island to MTR Tsing Yi Station during the morning peak period out of 15 trips.[22]
  • 2013: This route, together with the other residents' bus routes in Ma Wan (NR331, NR332, NR334 and NR338), had an average daily ridership of 23,000 in 2013, with an overall average occupancy rate of about 80%. In addition, this route and NR332 are the two most popular bus routes serving Ma Wan.[23]

According to Transport Department documents, the average daily ridership of this route together with other Ma Wan residents' bus routes (NR331, NR332, NR334 and NR338) was 22,800, 22,500 and 22,500 in 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively.[24]

According to operators cited by netizens, the impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak has led to a 33.2% drop in passenger numbers from January to October 2020 compared to the same period the previous year.[25]

Related Articles[]

  • 5 April 2015: A video clip of a dispute between a bus captain and a passenger at Tsing Yi Station after the bus captain advised the passenger to fold up the stroller was circulated on the internet, sparking a heated debate.[26] Following the incident, a notice was issued by the Park Island Bus Company on 25 April, requiring all strollers to be folded before boarding from 1 May.[27] This caused discontent among residents and the bus company eventually suspended the requirement for three months. [28] Subsequently, the bus company pointed out that it still needed to reach a consensus with various stakeholders to continue the moratorium.[29]
  • 26 August 2017: An elderly man and a foreign passenger argued about giving up their seats on an MTR Tung Chung Line train. After they got off the train at Tsing Yi Station, the elderly man chased the foreigner to the bus terminus, waved a plastic sign saying "Beware of slippery floors" and tried to block the departure of a Young Man JNP6122G (301/PM6822), before leaving on his own.
