This route was formerly known as a hotel bus route[1] and was operated by Great Leader Bus Holdings. [2]
27 February 2012: The Transport Department formally granted a Residents' Service Endorsement for Route NR766[3], which was then a full-time route for Gold Coast residents only, operated by Associated Tourist Coach Limited (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 7571A).
Not later than July 2019: Changed to operate by Kwoon Chung Motors Limited (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 3658A) of the same series.
July 2021: Changed to operate by Sun Bus Limited (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 8675A), with a drastic service reduction to only 2 trips during morning peak hours and cancellation of return trips.
In fact the service of this route has been drastically reduced since the 4th quarter of 2020 due to novel coronavirus pneumonia.
No later than 3 October 2022: Changed to provide service at only 07:45.
No later than 23 September 2024: Changed to be operated by Hang Po Transportation Company Limited (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 10586A).

Departure time from Hong Kong Gold Coast (Phase 2) is 5 minutes added to that from Phase 1.
Only Gold Coast residents and Cathay Pacific staff are eligible for travel on this route.
Passengers are required to produce their Registered Octopus Resident Identity Cards and tap the card upon boarding. No fare collection service will be provided inside the compartment.
Prior to 2012, passengers were required to purchase tickets in advance and drop them into the collection box when boarding the train, and tickets were only available to Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel residents.

24 April 2015: At around 3pm, an Associated Tourist CoachYutong ZK6107HE single-decker coach hit the rear of a truck in front which subsequently hit the rear of a light lorry when the bus was passing through Tuen Mun Road near Maritime Training Institute, leaving 10 passengers on the bus hospitalised.
