Hong Kong Buses Wiki

Park Island Bus Terminus (珀麗灣巴士總站) is an indoor bus terminus located at the base level of Park Island Blocks 3 and 5 and opposite to Ana Capri at 8 Pak Lai Road, Ma Wan, Tsuen Wan District, New Territories, which is exclusively served by residents' bus routes operated by Park Island Transport. This stop is named "Ma Wan (Tung Wan Bus Terminus)" (馬灣(東灣巴士總站)) according to open documents of Transport Department[1], however this official name is not widely used.

This terminus adopts a anti-clockwise travelling direction and has air-conditioned waiting room located in the centre, with an escalator connecting to Park Island Ferry Pier.

History[]

Park Island is a large residential project developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties in Ma Wan. It consists of 31 buildings in phases 1 to 6 (excluding phase 4), providing 5,292 units. The estate is located on a small island and focuses on smoke-free living. All roads on the island are restricted areas, and residents cannot drive their own cars to enter or leave the island. They must rely on the resident bus and ferry services provided by PITCL, similar to Discovery Bay.

The intake of Park Island Phase I began on 11 December 2002, with a bus terminus located on the ground floor of Blocks 3 and 5. Although Block 5 belongs to Phase II, the bus terminus was opened on 14 December, and the first resident bus route serving Park Island was the Route NR330 to and from Tsing Yi Station.

Later, as the number of residents gradually increased and the demand for external transportation became very high, PITCL successively launched three resident bus routes, which run to Kwai Fong, Hong Kong International Airport and Central overnight. Routes NR331 and NR331S, which operate between Tsuen Wan and Ma Wan Old Village, serve residents of Ma Wan (Pak Yan Road) and do not serve this stop.[Remark 1]

Currently, all resident bus services connecting Ma Wan with Tsing Yi and Kwai Fong operate 24 hours a day, facilitating residents' access to nearby MTR stations or public transport interchanges for interchanges to other modes of transport. According to a survey conducted by the Transport Department in early 2014, the overall passenger load factor of the resident bus services during the peak hours (i.e., weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.) averaged approximately 80%. Among these, the two bus routes with the highest passenger volume (i.e., those connecting Tsing Yi and Kwai Fong) had an average waiting time of approximately five minutes. For ferry services, the utilisation rate of ferry routes to and from Central during this period was approximately 40%.[2]

When a tropical cyclone hits Hong Kong, KMB will operate a temporary route Y41 to assist the Residents' Bus Route NR330 in transporting residents back to Ma Wan during adverse weather conditions. When Route Y41 is in operation, it shares the same bus stops as Route NR330.
