The Public Light Bus West Point - Tsuen Wan Route (also named as Sai Wan - Tsuen Wan Route), abbreviated as Sai Tsuen Route, is operated by HK Public Light Bus Owner & Driver Association Central and Sheung Wan Branch (Hotline: 9308 3823). It runs between West Point (Sutherland Street) and Tsuen Wan, which takes the Western Harbour Crossing and West Kowloon Corridor in between both places and is the sole public transport service connecting Western District and New Territories West (other than Islands District).

This route has been added to the Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme, in which passengers who use Octopus to pay their fares will be included in the calculation of the subsidy.

History[]

  • 2002: This route entered service.[1]
  • 1 September 2017: Trips between 6am and 4pm daily to West Point were truncated to terminate at the intersection between Queen's Road West and Belcher's Street, whereas that after 4pm remained terminating at Holland Street.
  • 1 September 2018: The fare was adjusted to $18.0.
  • TBC: Changed to exit the Connaught Road West flyover near the Kennedy Town Swimming Pool and return to Sutherland Street via Des Voeux Road West.[2]
  • 1 January 2019: The last departure time from Shun Tak Centre to Tsuen Wan was advanced earlier by 20 minutes.
  • June 2019: The fare was adjusted to $19.0 due to increase in the toll of Western Harbour Crossing.
  • 1 June 2021: The last departure time was advanced to 20:00 due to novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak.[3]
  • 17 October 2021: All Sunday and public holiday trips were cancelled due to insufficient ridership.

Free interchange service[]

Passengers boarding at Kwai Hing and Tai Wo Hau for Sheung Wan or West Point direction can board a minibus on this route for free and then interchange to West Point-bound minibuses after arriving at Citistore terminus. The details can be referred to the following chart.

Ridership[]

In November 2017, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Public Light Bus Owner and Driver Association, Mr Cheung Hon-wah, said in a media interview that after the commissioning of the West Island Line, the patronage of this route had dropped by nearly 70%.[5]

In December 2022, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Public Light Bus Owner and Driver Association, Mr Cheung Hon-wah, was interviewed by the media and said that the number of PLBs on this route was reduced from 30-odd to five for service.[6]

Related incidents[]

  • 20 June 2005: At noon, a West Point (Holland Street)-bound Toyota Coaster hit a man about to board a private car at Chung Kong Road, leaving injuries to his head and causing him to be hospitalised.[7]

  • 15 January 2019: Singer Leo Ku chartered the minibuses on this route and paid the fare on behalf of passengers between 12pm and 10pm as a replacement to his planned press conference announcing the arrangements of his solo concert to "make the concert more meaningful".[9]
