PLB Cheung Sha Wan - Belvedere Garden Route

The Red Minibus Cheung Sha Wan - Belvedere Garden Route, abbreviated as "Tsuen Lai Route" or "Tsuen Sham Route" is operated by AN Bus (also operated under the name of "HK Public-light Bus Owner & Driver Association (香港公共小巴車主司機協進總會) (Tsuen Sham Branch)"). It runs between Cheung Sha Wan and Belvedere Garden, passes through Clague Garden Estate, Discovery Park, and as far as Hanley Villa, taking Tsuen Wan Road and Kwai Chung Road. It operates from Mondays to Fridays before afternoon peak hour, and Saturdays and Public Holidays; on Mondays to Fridays before afternoon peak hours, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, the departures are extended to Wong Chuk Street, Sham Shui Po or Playing Field Road at Prince Edward; the departures to and from Cheung Sha Wan is coded as "AN1", while the frequency to and from Sham Shui Po or Prince Edward is coded as "AN2".

The operator calls this route "Tsuen Wan West - Lai Chi Kok Red Van" (荃灣西至荔枝角紅Van), where "Lai Chi Kok" refers to MTR Lai Chi Kok Station, not Nob Hill.

This is the first red minibus route in Hong Kong that does not accept cash payment, as it only accepts Octopus and PayMe e-wallet payments. In addition, this route has been added to the Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme, in which passengers who use Octopus to pay their fares will be included in the calculation of the subsidy.

History[]

  • 9 August 2019: This route entered service. [2]
  • 19 August 2019: Additional morning So Uk to Tsuen Wan service was introduced. [3]
  • 23 September 2019: Afternoon peak hour trips were changed to head to Belvedere Garden first, then travel to Cheung Sha Wan via Tai Chung Road, no longer serving Hanley Villa. [4]
  • 8 October 2019: PayMe payment accepted. [5]
  • 2 January 2020: No longer accepted cash payment. [6]
  • 18 January 2020: Additional round trips on Saturdays at morning and afternoon time introduced and extended to Sham Shui Po. For the outbound trips, when the minibus reaches Cheung Wah Street, it would go straight along Cheung Sha Wan Road to Yen Chow Street without passing through the Trade Square and the IVE (Haking Wong); for the return trip, the minibus would start from Pei Ho Street and would not pass through the vicinity of So Uk Estate.   • 24 January 2020: Headways between Sham Shui Po and Sham Shui Po at noon and in the evening were enhanced due to Lunar New Year's Eve, and headways at Lai Chi Kok during office hours were enhanced. [8]
  • 29 January 2020: All morning trips to Tsuen Wan departed from Un Chau Estate, Cheung Sha Wan (i.e. outside Cheung Sha Wan Fire Station), trips before 5:00 p.m. were changed to start at Sham Shui Po, and trips after 6:30 p.m. from Tsuen Wan would terminate at Sham Shui Po, and the farthest distance is Maple Street Playground.   • 10 February 2020: Additional Monday to Friday noon services were introduced, and headways from Mondays to Fridays were enhanced to whole day service. [9]
  • 22 February 2020: In response to headway reduction of KMB Route 234X due to the novel coronavirus epidemic, a Sunday service was introduced. [10]
  • 28 February 2020: The operator assigned route numbers to Route AN1 between Belvedere Garden and Lai Chi Kok, and Route AN2 between Belvedere Garden and Sham Shui Po. [11]
  • 2 March 2020: A special trip via Caritas Medical Centre was added. [12]
  • 23 April 2020: An additional special trip via Hoi Hing Road was added. [13]
  • 18 May 2020: Route AN1 would be routed via Cheung Sha Wan Road first and then via Hing Wah Street to D2 Place during afternoon peak hours, and all trips from D2 Place would go directly to Belvedere Garden. [14]

Related Incidents[]

  • 7 January 2023: A video clip was circulated on the Internet about a dispute between a minibus driver travelling on this route in the direction of Tsuen Wan and a private car driver on Cheung Sha Wan Road westbound near Cheung Sha Wan Plaza over a lane cutting issue. During the dispute, the driver of the private car attacked the minibus driver, allegedly threatened the driver, and claimed to be a member of a triad society. The Police classified the case as "criminal intimidation" and "claiming to be a triad member" and referred it to the Sham Shui Po Police District Anti-Triad Operations Unit for follow-up investigation. [17][18]
    • After in-depth investigation, the police arrested the 47-year-old owner of the private car in Kai Ching Estate on 8 January on suspicion of "permitting a person without a driving licence to drive" and "assisting an offender in committing an arrestable offence" [19] The driver of the private car that intimidated the minibus driver, who had been wanted for absconding since 2017, was arrested on 12 January on suspicion of drug trafficking and suspected of driving without a licence. [20][21]
    • On 9 January, some media reports said that the minibus driver who was attacked was the founder of AN Bus, Franki Li (李凱翔). [22][23]
