Related incidents[]

  • In 2001, two 2nd generation Toyota Coaster minibuses that had operated on this route were retired and sold to the new government in Kabul, Afghanistan. The Kabul Government used the two minibuses as VIP vehicles, and on the day of the establishment of the Interim Government of Afghanistan, the minibuses were used to transport foreign guests and local senior officials, which was reported by [17]Sing Pao Daily News,[18]Sun Post, [19][20]Hong Kong Economic Times and South China Morning Post.[21]The Sun reported that 15 Pakistani and Afghan businessmen in Hong Kong bought minibuses with a joint capital of HK$30,000 to HK$40,000 and then resold them to Afghanistan at HK$100,000, reaping huge profits, and praised several businessmen for their business acumen. Naeem Khan, a car reseller, said the businessman deliberately kept the route rollsigns (i.e. "99" and "Riviera Gardens to Tsuen Wan Ferry Pier $2.4") to let the officials know that the minibus came from Hong Kong and was different from the others.[21]As shown in the photos released by Eyepress, the local government only replaced the licence plate of the minibus with a local one and installed curtains on the windows, but everything else remained unchanged.[22]
  • 18 January 2020: At around 13:00, a Toyota Coaster (ML3800) lost control of the vehicle and hit a pillar at the petrol filling station at Tai Wo Hau Castle Peak Road, damaging the front end of the vehicle.[23]
  • 14 January 2022: At around 5pm, a Toyota Coaster (WU2696) lost control of its vehicle and crashed into a roadside railing at Yeung Uk Road opposite Citywalk, overturning and 4 injuries.[24]
