The New Territories Green Minibus Route 87K is operated by Asia Brighter Limited (誠運有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 11238C). It runs between MTR Tsuen Wan West Station and Kwai Fong (Metroplaza) (Near MTR Kwai Fong Station), via Yeung Uk Road, Kwai Fuk Road, Lower Kwai Shing Circuit and Kwai Fong Estate.

History[]

  • 5 June 2005: Route 87K entered service, running between Kwai Fong and West Rail Line Tsuen Wan West Station (The station is located at Tsuen Wan Transportation Complex); The Octopus Interchange Concessions between the original Route 87M and KCR West Rail are now provided by this route.[1]
  • 1 August 2005: West Rail Monthly Pass holders could enjoy free trips on this route from the same day onwards by holding an Octopus with such Monthly Pass information.
  • 19 March 2006: An additional interchange concession with Route 87M was introduced following the latter's shortening to facilitate passengers between Tsuen Wan and Container Port.
  • 1 March 2008: The interchange concession with West Rail Line was cancelled.
  • 27 January 2013: The "MTR Tsuen Wan West Station" terminus was relocated from Tsuen Wan Transport Complex to Nina Tower Bus Terminus following the permanent closure of the Transport Complex for the Tsuen Wan West Station Area 5 "Cityside" residential development.[2]
  • 24 February 2019: The Tsuen Wan terminus was re-located to the newly completed Hoi Kwai Road Public Transport Interchange.[3]
  • 30 March 2022: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route. [4]

  • The MTR ride does not apply to Light Rail, Airport Express, High-Speed Rail, MTR Bus and MTR Feeder Bus services.
  • The MTR interchange concession only applies to paid rides. Unless otherwise specified, passengers using the Monthly Pass Enhanced or Disneyland Resort Line Monthly Pass (including those who have paid First Class Supplementary Fare) cannot enjoy this concession when taking the MTR at designated stations; however, if Enhanced Monthly Pass or Disneyland Resort Line Monthly Ticket holders take paid rides outside the designated stations, the concession still applies.
  • If passengers have just used the same Octopus Card for the Airport Express "Free MTR Connection," they cannot simultaneously enjoy the MTR interchange concession.
  • If both "MTR Fare Saver" and "MTR Interchange Concession" are applicable, passengers can only enjoy one of the higher discounts.
  • Higher concession amounts are available for certain GMB routes at designated MTR stations.

Ridership[]

This route is direct and cheap, coupled with the high demands and frequency along the route, it is often full and even the actual 5-minute frequency is not enough to fulfill the demand.

Related incidents[]

  • 10 July 2023: At 3:30 pm, a 50-year-old man crossed the road after getting off the bus at Kwai Shun House, Kwai Fong Estate. At that time, a Toyota Coaster (PE1364) running on this route overtook the man and fell to the ground, sending the man to Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) for treatment.[17]
  • 27 August 2024: At 12:27 pm, a 19-seater Toyota Coaster (EH2674) towards MTR Tsuen Wan West Station hit a Toyota Coaster (EH287) running on New Territories GMB Route 95 towards Tsuen Wan Centre at Yeung Uk Road near the junction of Chung On Street, which was suspected of running the red light while turning right from Chung On Street to westbound Yeung Uk Road, leaving 10 people injured.[18]

  2. That 3rd generation was originally a vehicle on Kam Jet's New Territories Route 409 and was changed to serve Asia Brighter, until March 2010 before retirement.
  3. These series of minibuses once equipped with the Patent Enterprises EDS, the EDS was changed in 2024.
