Ridership[]
This route passes through many schools and thus has the nature of a school route with good patronage during peak hours, but it is competed by the minibus routes 803 and 804 and the MTR Tuen Ma Line, and the frequency is low, thus the patronage is low during other period.
Lost trips[]
Long queues at en-route stops are common during peak hours due to the low frequency of service
After the occupation of the additional 18 buildings in Shui Chuen O Estate, the Transport Department (TD), considering that this route was approaching saturation during peak hours, approved in February 2016 the operation of short-working trip Route 812A towards and from Sha Tin Wai Station, in order to accommodate the heavy patronage towards and from the MTR station.[13]
However, the low capacity of green minibuses cannot alleviate the traffic pressure in the area at all. Some residents have even found that the operator has reduced the frequency of this route in order to use vehicle-wave tactics on this route, coupled with the fact that the drivers of this route often drive with a slower speed, and have to wait for nearly an hour during off-peak hours, and the situation has worsened after this route has been upgraded to a whole-day service, and complaints about the inaccurate frequency of this route have been posted in the discussion centres frequently.[14][15]The situation improved slightly until December 2017 after this route was re-routed via Tin Sam Street on the outbound direction to take in more passengers.
Related incidents[]
- 21 August 2019: At around 12pm, a Hin Keng-bound Toyota Coaster (TP3253) hit an out-of-service KMB bus driver near Hin Hing House Hin Keng Estate opposite Hin Keng Street, and he was later hospitalised.[16]
