The New Territories Green Minibus (GMB) Route 806A is operated by Wai Ching Industrial Company Limited (偉程實業有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 18376C). It runs between Wong Nai Tau and Wan Tau Tong, via City One Shatin, Ravana Garden, Ma Liu Shui, Pak Shek Kok (Hong Kong Science Park), Tai Po Market and Tai Po Mega Mall.
History[]
The Transport Department (TD) issued a consultation paper to the Sha Tin and Tai Po District Councils in December 2018, proposing the introduction of a green minibus (GMB) route between Sha Tin (Wong Nai Tau) and Tai Po (Wan Tau Tong) via Yuen Chau Kok, Shek Mun, A Kung Kok, Tai Shui Hang, Science Park and Kwong Fuk Estate in view of the development of the Hong Kong Science Park and Pak Shek Kok.[1]
As a number of Tai Po and Sha Tin District Council members reflected that the route was too meandering, and the routing could not cover the Tai Po Centre, and the fare was too high (the maximum permitted fare was $19.8 according to the Scale of Fares)[2], the Transport Department (TD) released a revised scheme in March 2019, splitting it into two routes, one each starting from Wong Nai Tau and Shek Mun Estate, with the former via Kwong Yuen Estate, Yu Chui Court, City One Shatin, Ravana Garden, and the latter via A Kung Kok Street, Kam Tai Court, Heng On Estate, Yan On Estate, and both routes then head to Tate's Cairn Highway for travelling to/from the Hong Kong Science Park, and return to Wan Tau Tong via Kwong Fuk Road (Tai Po Market), Tai Po Tai Wo Road (Tai Po Mega Mall) within the Tai Po District, with the maximum permitted fare reduced to $15.8.[3][4]
Route change history[]
- 5 July 2019: The Transport Department (TD) invited open tenders for the right to operate five groups of 12 green minibus routes, which were grouped in the same group of tenders as routes 29, 413 and 806B. [5]
- 1 March 2020: Route 806A came into service. [6]
- 28 June 2020: Section fares from Science Park Road to Wan Tau Tong and from Tai Chung Kiu Road to Wong Nai Tau were added. [7]
- 29 October 2020: Without notice, a new special departure at 19:00 from Wan Tau Tong every Mondays to Fridays, not via Tai Po Tai Wo Road, Kwong Fuk Road, Shek Mun and City One Shatin.[8] The cancellation date of this arrangement is not known.
- 1 November 2020: Both directions were detoured via Fo Shing Road and Fo Chun Road, and the stops at "Providence Bay" on southbound and "Pak Shek Kok" on northbound Chong San Road were cancelled.[9]
- 25 June 2021: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route.[10]
- 31 July 2022: Special departures omitting via Pak Shek Kok at Mondays to Fridays peak hours on a trial basis were introduced.[11]
