The New Territories Green Minibus (GMB) Route 75 is operated by Ming Wai Public Light Bus Limited (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 12049C). It runs between Yuen Long (Fook Hong Street) and Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Public Transport Interchange.

This route is the only GMB route that provides services to Futian Port. As the fare is cheaper than that of KMB Route B1, it attracts many passengers to take it. This route is also the cheapest public transportation tool in Hong Kong to and from the land border control points, with the lowest fare being only $4.6.

History[]

  • 15 November 1985: The Transport Department (TD) invited public tenders for 11 groups of 24 new green minibus routes, in which this route was grouped with Route 76. [1]
  • 30 August 1986: Route 75 commenced service between Yuen Long (Fook Tak Street) and Ha Wan Tsuen. [2]
  • 18 December 1987: Terminus was relocated to Yuen Long (Fook Hong Street) to tie in with the opening of the minibus terminus there.
  • 23 February 1988: Due to the construction of the Light Rail, the route changed to enter Tung Lok Street via Kik Yeung Road, Yuen Long On Ning Road and Shou Fu Street for Yuen Long direction.
  • 13 May 1988: In connection with the New Territories Circular Highway project, the route was diverted to Lok Ma Chau Road via Pak Shek Au Interchange and SR6 (i.e. the present-day section of Castle Peak Road - Chau Tau) for both directions.
  • 5 August 1988: Detoured via L1 road (i.e. present-day Long Yat Road) for Ha Wan Tsuen direction.
  • 9 June 1989: Diverted via SR6 (i.e. the present section of Castle Peak Road - San Tin) to enter and exit Lok Ma Chau Road for both directions, and no longer passed through Pak Shek Au Interchange.
  • 7 December 2003: Detoured via West Rail Yuen Long Station Public Transport Interchange for Ha Wan Tsuen direction. [3]
  • 10 April 2005: As the operating licence of the original operator due to internal management problems, the route was temporarily changed to operate by Extra Billion Investment.
  • 22 April 2005: The Transport Department re-tendered this route and Route 76. [4]
  • Mid-2006: This route was taken over by Ming Wai Public Light Bus.
  • 15 August 2007: The Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point and Futian Port were commissioned, and the terminus was relocated to Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Public Transport Interchange with effect from 4:00 p.m. on the same day. [5]
    • A short-working trip between San Tin Post Office and Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Public Transport Interchange, initially named ‘75A’, was introduced on the same day, and was later subsumed under Route 75 in September of the same year.
  • 28 December 2009: The short-working trips between San Tin and Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point were formally extended with Castle Peak Road - San Tin near San Tin Post Office as the terminus. [6]
  • 10 June 2013: Following the second phase of the Government's reduction of the Frontier Closed Area (FCA), Ha Wan Tsuen Road was no longer part of the FCA and the section was then open to all passengers for access. However, the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Public Transport Interchange remains within the FCA. [7]
  • 17 January 2016: Trips to Yuen Long from 14:00 to 19:00 daily were rerouted via Yuen Long On Lok Road and Tai Kiu Road to Yuen Long On Ning Road after reaching Castle Peak Road - Yuen Long, omitting Kik Yeung Road, to which at that time it was said to be for a trial period of 3 months. [8]
  • 17 July 2016: Time period of trips omitting Kik Yeung Road for Yuen Long direction was extended to 14:00-20:00. [9]
  • 4 February 2020: Passenger clearance service at Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point was suspended from 00:00 a.m. in response to the novel coronavirus outbreak, all trips on this route to/from Lok Ma Chau Spur Line were suspended from that day onwards [10], and only service to/from Ha Wan Tsuen was provided until 7 January 2023 when the service was resumed.
  • 28 June 2022: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route. [11]
