The New Territories Green Minibus Route 60K is operated by Rich Success Transportation Limited (富昇運輸有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 11253C). It runs between Sha Tin Station and Fo Tan Cottage Area, via Lek Yuen Estate, Wo Che Estate, Fo Tan Village and Fo Tan Industrial Area. Minibus towards Fo Tan detours the road inside the Lek Yuen and Wo Che estates, and that towards Sha Tin stops only along Yuen Wo Road.

History[]

  • 16 October 1981: The Transport Department invited open tenders for 9 groups with a total of 19 new GMB routes, among which 1 group was Routes 60 and 61.[1]
  • 28 March 1982: Route 60 entered service, running between Sau Chuen House Lek Yuen /Wo Che and Fo Yan Cottage Area, and also adopted another 2 special trips: Lok Kwai Path (Pak Tak Coury)[Remark 1]↔Lek Yuen/Wo Che; Lok Kwai Path ↔ Kowloon Tong MTR Station.[2]
  • Middle 1982: Change to run between Sha Tin Market and Fo Tan Cottage Area.
  • 20 August 1982: The Sha Tin Central Terminus was re-located from Sha Tin Market to Sha Tin KCR Station,[3] and numbered as 60K.
  • 28 May 1984: The short-working trip from Penfold Park of Route 61M was shifted to this route and was shortened to Sha Tin KCR Station.
  • 23 September 1985: The short-working trip between Lok Kwai Path and Sha Tin KCR Station was independently numbered as 62K.
  • 2 January 1990: Providing special-working trip between Sha Tin KCR Station and Fo Tan (Kwai Tei Street) in AM and PM peak hours.
  • 1 June 1994: The special-working trip from Kwei Tei Street was renumbered as Route 60P; from the same day onwards, all the frequency between 08:00 - 09:45 weekdays to Fo Tan Cottage Area and Fo Tan (Kwai Tei Street) were re-routed via Tai Po Road - Shatin, omitting Yuen Wo Road. To compensate for the vacuum between Yuen Wo Road and Fo Tan Cottage Area during this period, a short-working trip was provided between Fung Shun Street and Fo Tan Cottage Area. The cancellation date of this arrangement is yet to be confirmed.
  • Unknown: The special departure between Sha Tin KCR Station and Sha Tin Racecourse (Penfold Park) was re-numbered as 60R.
  • 2003: The Transport Department revoked the Passenger Service Licence of the original operator Standard Line Limited (立航有限公司) due to its poor service record[4] and re-tendered this route with routes 60P, 60R, 61M, 61S, 62K on 1 August.;[5][6] Finally, Rich Success Transportation took over the route on 5 November in the same year, defeating the other five companies including Kiu Wan.
  • 12 July 2010: Special trips between Wong Chuk Yeung Village and Sha Tin Station were enhanced, and the service hours of special trips from Wong Chuk Yeung Village are 07:05, 10:50, 16:50 and 19:50 daily, and the service hours of special trips from Sha Tin Station are 10:30, 16:30 and 19:30 daily.
  • 22 January 2012: The Wong Chuk Yeung special trip was converted to a two-way service.
  • 28 August 2020: Detoured via Fo Tan Chun Yeung Estate Lay-bys for Sha Tin Station direction.[7]
  • 24 September 2021: Real-time Arrival Information was introduced to this route.[8]
  • 18 March 2024: Special trips between Wong Chuk Yeung Village and Sha Tin Station were enhanced. The service hours of special trips from Wong Chuk Yeung Village were 07:05, 10:50, 16:50 and 19:50 daily, and the service hours of special trips from Sha Tin Station were 10:30, 16:30 and 19:30 daily.[9]

  • Passengers can enjoy the above interchange concession at any MTR station / minibus stop that connects to the second leg of the route.
  • The MTR ride does not apply to Light Rail, Airport Express, High-Speed Rail, MTR Bus and MTR Feeder Bus services.
  • The MTR interchange concession only applies to paid rides. Unless otherwise specified, passengers using the Monthly Pass Enhanced or Disneyland Resort Line Monthly Pass (including those who have paid First Class Supplementary Fare) cannot enjoy this concession when taking the MTR at designated stations; however, if Enhanced Monthly Pass or Disneyland Resort Line Monthly Ticket holders take paid rides outside the designated stations, the concession still applies.
  • If passengers have just used the same Octopus Card for the Airport Express "Free MTR Connection," they cannot simultaneously enjoy the MTR interchange concession.
  • If both "MTR Fare Saver" and "MTR Interchange Concession" are applicable, passengers can only enjoy one of the higher discounts.
  • Higher concession amounts are available for certain GMB routes at designated MTR stations.

Minibus deployments[]

According to the Transport Department's "Schedule of Services", this route requires a total of 16 minibuses to provide service on Routes 60K, 60P and 60R. Three routes have a total passenger capacity in each direction during the peak hour is not less than 240.

Currently,this route and Routes 60P, 60R, 61M and 62K have a total of 29 Toyota Coaster minibuses, including 17 16-seater minibuses and 12 19-seater minibuses. Some minibuses also run on the New Territories Route 61S during overnight period.

Ridership[]

After the occupation of Chun Yeung Estate, Route 60K is often fully loaded with unstable frequency, which makes passengers from the Fo Tan Industrial Area difficult to board, and passengers have to queue for several trips at Sha Tin Station during the afternoon peak hours before boarding.

According to District Council documents, the ridership of this route is as follows:

  • 2017: The average occupancy rate was about 95% during both AM and PM peak hours and about 90% during non-peak hours.[21]
  • 2018: The average occupancy rate was about 85% during the AM peak hour, 95% during the PM peak hour and 10% during the off-peak hour.[21]
  • 2019: The average occupancy rate is about 60% during the AM peak hour, 95% during the PM peak hour and 80% during the off-peak hour.[21]
  • 2020: The average occupancy rate is about 40% during the AM peak hour and about 95% during the PM peak hour.[21]
  • 2021: The average occupancy rate was about 95% during both the AM and PM peak hours and about 60% during the off-peak hours.[21]

Related incidents[]

  • 27 June 2017: At around 8am, a Sha Tin Station bound Toyota Coaster (KY4490) approached Sha Tin Rural Committee Road near New Town Plaza and slowed down due to the traffic condition in front of it, but it was followed by another minibus with the same model code on Route 62K (KX9222), which was also heading to Sha Tin Station, which was unable to stop. The minibus was pulled forward and hit a taxi in front of it, and 14 injures. The driver of the minibus, a 54-year-old woman surnamed Lee, who was driving Route 62K, became agitated after the incident, knelt down and screamed on scene.[22][23]
  • 30 June 2024: At around 1:45 pm, a Toyota Coaster (XK8721) heading towards Sha Tin Station, when driving off Sha Tin Rural Committee Road near Lek Yuen Estate, hit a Regal B9TL (AVBWU451/UL3064) which was heading towards Sha Tin Station on KMB Route 89X, resulting injuries to the driver of the minibus and the four passengers on board.[24][25]

  1. Paterson Court was once the staff quarters of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. It was surrendered to the Government in 2000 and the present site has been developed into a private residential estate, The Grandville.
  2. Numbers placed after the model Toyota Coaster (if any) are only used within the transport enthusiasts, others (including the industry) does not use such names.
