The New Territories Green Minibus Route 43 is operated by C & W Mini Bus Service Company Limited (中西區小巴服務有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 5973C) under Ma Ah Muk. It runs circular between San Hui Market and So Kwun Wat (So Kwun Wat Tsuen), and detours via Nim Wan Tsuen daily after 9am.

Route 43 came into service in May 1988, and followed suit by the opening of Light Rail on September, the terminus of this route was moved from Tuen Mun Ferry Pier to San Hui Market, not affected by significant reductions in public transportation services in the area due to the implementation of Transit Service Area, is one of the oldest day-time service green minibus route in Tuen Mun Area.

History[]

  • 9 October 1987: The Transport Department (TD) invited opened tenders for a total of 18 green minibus (GMB) routes in a set of 9, with this route and route 1st generation Route 44 being in the same group.[1]
  • 10 May 1988: Route 43 came into service, running between Tuen Mun Ferry Pier and Tsing Yung Street. [2]
  • 11 July 1988: Tuen Mun Ferry Pier terminus was relocated to Pierhead Garden Block 1.
  • 25 September 1988: In conjunction with the opening of Phase 1 of KCR Light Rail, the route was changed to run between Tuen Mun Town Centre (San Tsing Street) and So Kwun Wat, with the fare unchanged. Short-distance services between Tuen Mun Town Centre (San Tsing Street) and Tsing Yung Street were also introduced.
  • 1993: The short distance service Number of Tsing Yong Street was 43A.
  • 20 December 2003: Detoured via Tuen Mun Station Public Transport Interchange for San Hui Market direction.
  • 14 March 2010: Rerouted via San Tuen Mun Station Covered Public Transport Interchange for San Hui Market direction.
  • 13 June 2010: Service hour was extended to 22:15. [3]
  • 9 October 2011: All trips no longer detoured via Nim Wan Village and was replaced by the new route 43S. [4]
  • 11 March 2012: Last trip hour was extended to 22:30.
  • 1 October 2014: Resumed detouring via Nim Wan Tsuen daily except for trips between 06:00-09:00, same as the routing of Route 43S.
  • 1 March 2016: In response to passenger demand, the last trip was extended to 22:45 on a 3-month trial basis 30 May[5]; After the trial arrangement, the relevant arrangements still remained in place.
  • 13 May 2018: In response to passenger demand, the last trip was extended to 23:00. [6]
  • 7 December 2020: No longer detoured via Hong Kong Gold Coast Piazza for San Hui Market direction.
  • 25 June 2021: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route. [7]

Fare Remarks
  • Same fare regardless of age.
  • Elderly persons aged 65 or above using Elderly Octopus or Personalised Octopus cards and eligible persons with disabilities using Personalised Octopus cards with "Persons with Disabilities Status" can enjoy a flat fare of $2.0 per journey under the Concessionary Fare.
  • Passengers are required to tender exact fare in cash or by Octopus card upon boarding. No change will be given.
  • Passengers who wish to pay the two-way section fares by Octopus card should press the "Section Fare" button on the Octopus fare processor to adjust the fare to the appropriate amount before tapping.
  • This route accepts payments with AlipayHK "EasyGo", but interchange concessions and the $2.0 flat fare per trip are not entitled with this payment method.

  • Passengers must use the same Octopus Card to pay the fare for both the minibus and MTR to enjoy the above-mentioned interchange concession.
  • Passengers can enjoy the above transfer discount at any MTR station / minibus stop that connects to the second leg of the route.
  • The MTR ride does not apply to Light Rail, Airport Express, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail, MTR Bus and MTR Feeder Bus services.
  • The MTR interchange concession only applies to paid rides. Unless otherwise specified, passengers using the Monthly Pass Enhanced Version or Disneyland Line Monthly Ticket (including those who have paid First Class Supplementary Fare) cannot enjoy this concession when taking the MTR at designated stations; however, if Enhanced Monthly Pass or Disneyland Resort Line Monthly Ticket holders take paid rides outside the designated stations, the concession still applies.
  • If passengers have just used the same Octopus Card for the Airport Express "Free MTR Connection," they cannot simultaneously enjoy the MTR interchange concession.
  • If both "MTR Fare Saver" and "MTR Interchange Concession" are applicable, passengers can only enjoy one of the higher discounts.
  • Higher concession amounts are available for certain GMB routes at designated MTR stations.

According to the Transport Department's Schedule of Services, this route requires a total of 5 minibuses, 1 of which is 19-seat minibus. The total passenger capacity in each direction during the busiest hour in the afternoon is not less than 112.

Current this route and Routes 43A, 43B, 43C and 43S have a total of 21 Toyota Coaster minibuses, included 13 of 16-seater minibuses and 8 of 19-seater minibuses. All of these 16-seater minibuses can support to other routes.

Ridership[]

Tuen Mun District Councilor Beatrice Chu has monitored the operation of this route many times and found that the service was unsatisfactory, with frequent lost trips and has continued for more than a year. Councilor Chu reflected with Transport Department for several times but not effective, Therefore, Chu's complaint was filed with the Office of the Ombudsman in May 2020, [9]and received a reply that an investigation had been officially launched.[10]

Related incidents[]

  • 20 November 2017: At around 01:09 pm, a So Kwun Wat-bound Toyota Coaster (KY4632) was passing through Tuen Mun Heung Sze Wui Road near Pui To Road when smoke suddenly came out from under the vehicle and the driver immediately stopped and evacuated the passengers.[11]

Remarks[]

  1. Numbers placed after the model Toyota Coaster (if any) are only used within the transport enthusiasts, others (including the industry) does not use such names.
  2. That 3rd generation was changed to serve on Hop Fat Light Bus's Kowloon routes 8 series then changed the plate number as LU7293 (This plate number is now applied in a 2010 6DS on Kowloon Route 8M), until July 2010 before retirement.
  3. That 5LS2 originally was a Red Minibus Kwun Chai Route and was changed to serve on C & W Mini Bus Service, until January 2022 before retirement.
