The New Territories Green Minibus Route 40 is operated by Extra Billion Investment Limited (均億投資有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 13178C) under Yau Man Investment. It runs between Siu Hang Tsuen and Tuen Mun Town Centre.

This route is officially a circular route as listed in the according to Transport Department's Schedule of Services, but under any circumstances, all passengers must alight after the vehicle has arrived at Tuen Mun Central, and there are separate departure times at the two termini, therefore it belongs to a fake circular route.

History[]

  • 27 March 1998: The Transport Department invited open tenders for 15 sets of a total of 19 green minibus (GMB) routes, this route was among one of them.[1]
  • 1998: Route 40 entered service, running circular between Siu Hang Tsuen and Yau Oi Estate.
  • TBC: Rerouted via Shek Pai Tau Road (Chelsea Heights section) after Choy Yee Bridge following the opening of the road section.
  • 20 December 2003: Detoured via Tuen Mun Station Public Transport Interchange.
  • 1 July 2007: The original operator Tin Fai International Company Limited gave up the operating right of this route, which was taken over by Kiu Wan Public Light Bus (Scheduled) Service Company Limited under Ma Ah Muk after re-tendering.[2]
  • 4 March 2010: Rerouted via the covered public transport interchange at Tuen Mun Station and additionally observed Tak Ching Circuit.
  • 9 September 2011: This route was re-tendered again as Ma Ah Muk gave up its operating rights.[3]
  • 1 January 2012: Taken over by Extra Billion Investment with fare increase and truncation to Tuen Mun Town Centre, no longer serving Yau Oi Estate.
  • 22 December 2021: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route.[4]

  • Passengers are required to tender exact fare in cash or by Octopus card upon boarding. No change will be given.

Notes:
  • Passengers must use the same Octopus Card to pay the fare for both the minibus and MTR to enjoy the above-mentioned interchange concession.
  • Passengers can enjoy the above transfer discount at any MTR station / minibus stop that connects to the second leg of the route.
  • The MTR ride does not apply to Light Rail, Airport Express, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail, MTR Bus and MTR Feeder Bus services.
  • The MTR interchange concession only applies to paid rides. Unless otherwise specified, passengers using the Monthly Pass Enhanced Version or Disneyland Line Monthly Ticket (including those who have paid First Class Supplementary Fare) cannot enjoy this concession when taking the MTR at designated stations; however, if Enhanced Monthly Pass or Disneyland Resort Line Monthly Ticket holders take paid rides outside the designated stations, the concession still applies.
  • If passengers have just used the same Octopus Card for the Airport Express "Free MTR Connection," they cannot simultaneously enjoy the MTR interchange concession.
  • If both "MTR Fare Saver" and "MTR Interchange Concession" are applicable, passengers can only enjoy one of the higher discounts.
  • Higher concession amounts are available for certain GMB routes at designated MTR stations.

According to the Transport Department's "Schedule of Services", a total of 3 16-seater minibuses are required to serve this route. The total number of passengers carried in each direction during the peakiest hour is not less than 48.

Currently this route has a 2; 16-seater Toyota Coaster LPG-minibuses. All the minibus will support on Yau Man Investment Routes 46 and 46X.

Kiu Wan era[]

This route had a total of 7 16-seater Toyota Coaster LPG-minibuses before Kiu Wan ceased operations. If the vehicle breaks down, the driver will borrow a vehicle from C & W Mini Bus Service's New Territories Route 43 to serve on this route.
