The New Territories Green Minibus (GMB) Route 29 is operated by Wai Ching Industrial Company Limited (偉程實業有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 18376C). It runs between Ma Liu Shui Ferry Pier and Wan Tau Tong, via Pak Shek Kok (Hong Kong Science Park) and providing service only during Monday to Friday peak hours. It is an auxillary service to Routes 806A and 806B, omitting Tai Po Mega Mall and Po Heung Bridge.

History[]

  • 5 July 2019: The Transport Department (TD) invited open tenders for the right to operate five groups of 12 green minibus routes, which were grouped in the same group of tenders as routes 413, 806A and 806B. [1]
  • 1 March 2020: Route 29 came into service. [2]
  • 25 June 2021: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route.[3]

  • Passengers must use the same Octopus Card to pay the fare for both the minibus and MTR to enjoy the above-mentioned interchange concession.
  • Passengers can enjoy the above transfer discount at any MTR station / minibus stop that connects to the second leg of the route.
  • The MTR ride does not apply to Light Rail, Airport Express, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail, MTR Bus and MTR Feeder Bus services.
  • The MTR interchange concession only applies to paid rides. Unless otherwise specified, passengers using the Monthly Pass Enhanced Version or Disneyland Line Monthly Ticket (including those who have paid First Class Supplementary Fare) cannot enjoy this concession when taking the MTR at designated stations; however, if Enhanced Monthly Pass or Disneyland Resort Line Monthly Ticket holders take paid rides outside the designated stations, the concession still applies.
  • If passengers have just used the same Octopus Card for the Airport Express "Free MTR Connection," they cannot simultaneously enjoy the MTR interchange concession.
  • If both "MTR Fare Saver" and "MTR Interchange Concession" are applicable, passengers can only enjoy one of the higher discounts.
  • Higher concession amounts are available for certain GMB routes at designated MTR stations.

Minibus deployments[]

According to Transport Department's Schedule of Services, this route, together with routes 806A, 806B, 806C and 806M, are served by a total of 18 19-seater minibuses. The five routes have a combined carrying capacity of not less than 171 passengers per direction during the busiest hour.

Currently a total of 36 minibuses are deployed on Routes NT GMB Routes 29, 413, 806A, 806B, 806C and 806M operated under Wai Ching Industrial, including 6 16-seater and 30 19-seater minibuses.

Among all these minibuses, those without commercial advertisements sticked on Route 806 series are affixed with route promotion advertisements of the set of routes; all minibuses running on the set of routes are equipped with intercoms for drivers and regulators to report on service conditions; vehicles of the set of routes not equipped with side electronic signs have plastic plates writing "806" sticked on windows.

According to the District Council papers, the ridership of this route is as follows:

  • 2020: The average occupancy rate at St. Martin towards Ma Liu Shui in the morning peak period was about 65%, and that in the afternoon peak period at Science Park Phase 1 Phase 1 towards Tai Po was about 20% . [7]
  • 2021: The average occupancy rate at Wan Tau Tong during the morning peak period in the Ma Liu Shui direction is about 55%, and that at Fo Yin Road during the afternoon peak period in the Tai Po direction is about 70%. [7]
  • 2022: The average occupancy rate at Kwong Fuk Estate during the morning peak period towards Ma Liu Shui was about 65%, and the average occupancy rate at Science Park Phase I during the afternoon peak period towards Tai Po was about 40%. [7]
  • 2023: The average occupancy rate at Science Park Road is about 60% during the morning peak period towards Ma Liu Shui, and about 50% during the afternoon peak period at St. Martin towards Tai Po.[7]

  1. Numbers placed after the model Toyota Coaster (if any) are only used within the transport enthusiasts, others (including the industry) does not use such names.
  2. After the closure of Chit Fai Motors, this vehicle once parked at Laguna Verde, Festival Walk and Kowloon Bay Vehicle Detention Pound.
  3. The original plate number of the was JX3935, replaced with MB9388 before retirement.
  4. The original plate number of the 4th generation was JV9567 and was originally a vehicle of Hung Kei Route.
  5. The original plate number of the 6DS was GG4189. After the cancellation of Tin Shing Motors' Kowloon routes 10A.10M, the vehicle was transferred to Heung Mong Route for service,and was transferred again to a vehicle of routes under Chiu Luen and Hon Wah Public Light Bus Association, and had its plate number changed to WR5822; later transferred to Tsz Mong Route in September 2021 until it was retired in December of the same year.
