The New Territories Green Minibus Route 26 is operated by Wyman Development Limited (偉文發展有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 10828C) under Yau Man Investment. It runs between Ma On Shan (Bayshore Towers) and Tai Po (The Education University of Hong Kong), taking the Tolo Highway to and from Tai Po Market, Tai Po Centre and Tai Po Industrial Estate after Ma On West.
Though this route and Route 26A is operated by Wyman Development Limited, the minibuses are deployed jointly by Min Kee Motors and Yau Man Investment, which makes them the only two routes that have this arrangement.
History[]
- 16 February 2001: The Transport Department launched an open tender for 7 groups of 9 green minibus (GMB) routes, in which this route was among one of them.[1][2]
- 17 February 2002: Route 26 came into service.[3]
- 22 December 2021: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route. [4]

Currently, this route and Route 26A have a total of 26 Toyota Coaster minibuses, including 2 16-seater minibuses and 24 19-seater minibuses. All the minibuses are operated under Yau Man Investment and Min Kee Motors.

Ridership[]
This route is the only direct whole-day public transport between Ma On Shan Town Centre and Tai Po, and is often fully seated due to the high demand for travelling between the two places. The operator has set the full fare at a very high level (according to the Scale of Fares, the maximum permitted fare was $13.0 at the time of its inception, while the full fare was already $12.0 at the time of its inception, and is now $15.0), and therefore requests from residents of Ma On Shan and Tai Po for the provision of a full-day service by the lower-fare KMB Route 274P (currently with a fare of $9.1) have appeared in the local press every now and then.
According to different information, the ridership of this route is as follows:
- 2019: During an on-site inspection from 7am to 9am, the passenger capacity of Tai Po direction at Yiu Him House Yiu On Estate was 90%, whereas from 5pm to 7pm, the passenger capacity of Ma On Shan direction at Wan Tau Street was 80%. During an on-site inspection from 9am to 5pm on the above stops, the passenger capacity of both directions was 60% and 50% respectively.[12]
- 2020: During an on-site inspection from 7am to 9am, the passenger capacity of Tai Po direction at Yiu Him House Yiu On Estate was 80%., whereas from 5pm to 7pm, the passenger capacity of Ma On Shan direction at Kwong Fuk Estate was 85%. During an on-site inspection from 9am to 5pm on the above stops, the passengers capacity of both directions was 50% and 55% respectively.[12]
- 2021: During an on-site inspection from 7am to 9am, the passengers capacity of Tai Po direction at Bayshore Towers Minibus Terminus was 85%. From 5pm to 7pm, the passenger capacity of Ma On Shan direction at Kwong Fuk Estate was 85%. During an on-site inspection from 9am to 5pm on the above stops, the passenger capacity of both directions was 20% and 55% respectively.[12]
- November: During an on-site inspection from 5pm to 6pm, the passengers capacity of Tai Po direction at Kwong Fuk Estate was 55%.[13]
- 2022: During an on-site inspection from 7am to 9am, the passenger capacity of Tai Po direction at Yiu Him House Yiu On Estate was 100%, whereas from 5pm to 7pm, the passenger capacity of Ma On Shan direction at Kwong Fuk Estate was 90%. During an on-site inspection from 9am to 10am and 7pm to 8pm at Yiu Him House and Kwong Fuk Estate stops respectively, the passengers capacity of both directions was 65% and 60% respectively.[12]; and during an on-site inspection at AM peak hour, the passenger capacity of Ma On Shan direction at Kwong Fuk Estate was 60%.[14]

Stolen minibus incident[]
- 30 December 2011: Around 4am, a Toyota Coaster (KC3904) was parking at Bayshore Towers Minibus Terminus was stolen by two drunken 18-year-old teenagers, to which it was driven by 5km from Ma On Shan to Sai Sha Road near Nga Yiu Tau and hit six taxis and two motorbikes. The minibus finally stopped when it hit the tree and two teenagers were arrested.[15] One of them later admitted to "taking conveyance without authority" and was sentenced to one year of probation.[16][17]
- 3 March 2013: At around 4am, a Toyota Coaster was parking at Bayshore Towers Minibus Terminus was stolen by drunkard, which it hit another minibus ahead, and the drunkard was arrested afterwards.[18]
Minibus accident[]
- 14 March 2012: At around 6:00pm, a Toyota Coaster (KT7914) heading towards Bayshore Towers was hit by a container truck at Dai Kwai Street, injuring 12 people. [19]
- 31 August 2023: At about 8:00 pm, a Toyota Coaster (KP980) lost control of its vehicle at the junction of Sai Sha Road near Ma On Shan Road, Ma On Shan and hit a traffic light and overturned. The driver of the minibus was injured and trapped for a while, and was rushed to the rescue by rescue workers and sobered up before being sent to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.[20]
