The New Territories Green Minibus (GMB) Route 1A is operated by Sai Kung P.L.B (Maxicab) (No. 1 & 2) Company Limited (西貢(1、2號)(專線)小巴有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 4655C). It runs between Sai Kung Pier and Choi Hung (Rhythm Garden), via Pak Sha Wan, Ho Chung, Pik Uk, Tseng Lan Shue, Choi Wan Estate, MTR Choi Hung Station and Choi Hung Estate.

The routing of Route 1A is similar to KMB Route 92 in terms of service area and nearly overlaps with the latter. The difference lies on the latter having connections to Diamond Hill Station for the MTR Kwun Tong Line and Tuen Ma Line, and offering Octopus interchange with many urban bus routes, and passing through New Clear Water Bay Road towards Sai Kung and some special trips towards Kowloon.

Although the official Kowloon terminus of this route is at Rhythm Garden, there are fewer passengers at the stop during off-peak hours and the operator arranges for a separate minibus to start picking up passengers at Ngau Chi Wan Village.

History[]

  • 18 November 1979: Route 1 commenced service with short trips between Sai Kung and Choi Hung (Luk Lau Road).
  • Around 1993: the terminus of Choi Hung Short Departure was changed from Luk Lau Road to Choi Hung Public Transport Interchange.
  • 1997: Choi Hung Short Trips was given a separate number 1A.
  • 1 May 2001: Octopus fare payment was accepted.
  • 3 March 2002 from 10:00am: The intermediate stop at Choi Hung MTR Station was moved from Ngau Chi Wan Market (Choi Hung Station Exit B) to Lung Cheung Road near Ngau Chi Wan Village to coincide with the construction of the property "8 Clear Water Bay Road" by Ping Shek Bus Terminus. [1]
  • 10 July 2002: Rerouted via New Hiram's Highway which opened on that day for Sai Kung Pier direction. [2]
  • 20 February 2011: Interchange concession with MTR was introduced.[3]
  • 1 May 2013: Interchange concession with MTR was cancelled. [4]
  • 25 June 2021: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route.[5]
  • 6 January 2024: Diamond Hill terminus was relocated from San Po Kong Public Transport Terminus to the newly-opened Diamond Hill (Choi Hung Road) Public Transport Interchange. [6]
