The Macau HK Airport Direct (澳門香港機場直達) is operated by the Hong Kong & Macao International Airport Transportation Service Company Limited (港澳機場客運服務有限公司). It runs between the Hong Kong International Airport (SkyPier Terminal) and the HZMB Macau Port, via Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
To cater for the connecting flights of travellers, all departures of this route are equipped with flight numbers and use the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Airline Code, which adopts TurboJET's 8S.
History[]
The HZMB Hong Kong Port is adjacent to the Hong Kong International Airport, however, the two control points are not connected to each other, so if Macau residents want to go to the Hong Kong International Airport by land, they still need to go through Hong Kong immigration formalities at the HZMB Hong Kong Port, and then transfer to NLB Route B4 to go to the airport for boarding formalities, or take ferries at the Macau Outer Harbour Terminal or Taipa Ferry Terminal to go to the SkyPier in order to skip Hong Kong's immigration formalities.
In view of this, the Airport Authority of Hong Kong plans to construct an intermediate passenger terminal building next to the SkyPier at the airport, with a closed flyover connecting to the HZMB Hong Kong Port, which is expected to be completed in 2022. By then, travellers only need to check in and check their baggage at the Macao or Zhuhai ports and then take a cross-boundary bus to the restricted area of the HZMB Hong Kong Port, and do not need to undergo Hong Kong's immigration and customs clearance formalities. [1]
However, the Macau government was still striving for the early commencement of the direct bus service to the Hong Kong Airport, and the route will eventually commence service on 16 December 2019, operated by Hong Kong & Macao International Airport Transportation Service Company Limited, with an initial frequency of 38 round trips from Mondays to Fridays, and 44 round trips on Saturdays and Sundays. As the SkyPier Terminal was still under construction, passengers at the initial stage of operation still needed to go through Hong Kong immigration clearance at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities before proceeding to the Hong Kong Airport until its inception on 30 August 2023.
- 16 December 2019: Service commenced with concessionary fare of $130 (single journey) and $240 (return) for the first month of operation.
- 25 March 2020: Service suspended due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia until 20 March 2023 when service resumed with 3 round trips each direction. [2]
- 30 August 2023: In response to the opening of the SkyPier Terminal at the Airport: [3]
- Changed to use SkyPier Terminal as the terminus and no longer stopped at the Airport Mainland/Macau Transportation Service Centre outside the ground level of Terminal 1;
- Change to travel to and from the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge via the Airport Closed Area Flyover so that passengers no longer needed to go through Hong Kong immigration and customs clearance;
- Service hours were extended and fares were adjusted.
