Ma Ah Muk (馬亞木) was a late minibus businessman who bought a large number of minibuses after the Riots of June 1967, which now owns the largest fleet of minibuses in Hong Kong, with his routes spreading all over Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. According to information from the Transport Department in March 2013, Ma's fleet of GMBs totalled 646, the largest of any minibus group in Hong Kong, and at a market value of $5.9 million per minibus licence at the time, the total value of the fleet was close to $3.8 billion.[1]
His minibus empire is now divided among the second generation, with Ma Kiu-sang mainly responsible for external work, such as meetings with government officials, his second brother Kiu-mo for managing the drivers, minibus schedules and maintenance, and his third brother Kiu-man for finance[2]. The company's day-to-day business is headed by "Koon Wing Motors" (冠榮車行), which has a number of self-owned and acquired subsidiaries[3][4]. The company's hotline is 2361 1255 and its office is located on the ground floor of 327-331 Castle Peak Road, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon[5][6].
According to online transport enthusiasts, Ma Ah Muk's fleet of GMBs generally has the following characteristics:[7]
- Most of the 16-seater minibuses have words "MA AH MUK 馬亞木", "11-13 G/F BLK.2, TAI WAN SHAN R/E[8] KLN 11-13, G/F 九龍紅磡大環山新邨二座地下11-13 (the address of Ma Ah Muk's office in the early years, most of the minibuses now have this column covered with white paint and the licence plate number written on it)" printed in white letters on the side of the door towards the interior of the vehicle, and the Chinese words "此車限座十六人" (This vehicle is limited to 16 passengers).
- The front of the vehicle is fitted with non-original beige crash bars (known as "local-made bumps") made in Hong Kong
- The usual format of the route rollsign for front-end boxes is a circle around the centre with the route number and the start and end points of the route on the left and right sides (individual subsidiaries such as Golden Way and Fully Mint initially used other rollsign formats, but have changed back to the normal format with the replacement of the new rollsign, while Garrison's rollsigns only list the start and end points of the route and Loadwin Industrial's rollsign has not yet changed to the standard format; while for Luxe Form Investment and Fu Wan PLB the route number is shown on the left side of the rollsign; and the colours of the route rollsign plate for the New Territories, Kowloon and Hong Kong Island GMB routes operated by the other operators under the name of Ma are red, green and blue respectively.
- Most of the seventh-generation Toyota Coasters are equipped with Vogel industrie seats and bus-like stop bells, replacing the original Vega seats and drop clocks.
From the end of January 2019, all new seventh generation Toyota Coasters are equipped with a Transfull EDS with GPS and an electronic black box to monitor the driver's driving status, and some will also have a stop announcement function.
The four Ma's sons have repeatedly stated on public occasions that the operating costs of GMBs have been rising, with fuel prices, drivers' salaries, and even tyre parts increasing at an alarming rate, and that fare adjustments have to go through many hurdles.[9][10]
In the face of the tough operating environment, Ma has started to venture into the Resident Bus and taxi businesses in recent years, and even invested heavily in shops. In 2004, he bought the entire third floor of Lik Sang Plaza in Tsuen Wan at a cost of over HK$20 million, becoming the majority owner of the shopping mall, accounting for more than 30% of the ownership; his company, Yan Yan Ho Motors, even bid for the shopping mall property put up for sale by The Link in 2014, successfully winning the bid for Kwai Hing Shopping Centre.[11]
Ma Ah Muk passed away in Hong Kong Baptist Hospital on 17 March 2024 due to illness at the age of 96. [12]

Treasure Up[]
Treasure Up Corporation Limited (騰寶興業有限公司) was established on 27 March 2014 and then applied for a tender for a GMB route between The Beaumont and Hang Hau (route number finalised as 113 after successful tendering) on 6 June of the same year. It was commenced on 11 February 2015 with a PSL number 15823C.
The company also participated in the tender for the Shui Chuen O to Hin Keng and Shek Mun Station group (i.e. routes 812 and 813, which were subsequently won by other operators) on the same day, and was unsuccessful.
Citing information from the Companies Registry, a netizen pointed out that Treasure Up Corporation was originally directed by Red Minibus owner Lai Ming-hung (黎銘洪), who scored high marks in the Tendering process; on the fifth day after the successful bid for Route 113 was launched, the director was changed to Ma Ah Muk's eldest son Ma Kiu-sang[18]. On the day Route 113 was launched, Ma Ah Muk and Ma Kiu-sang, who was not yet a director of Treasure Up Corporation, visited The Beaumount Minibus Terminus to inspect the operation of the route.
Treasure Up is also the first minibus operator under Ma Ah Muk to set up a website (Link now void, see archive).
