MTR Bus Route K65A

The MTR Bus (Northwest New Territories) Route K65A runs between Lau Fau Shan and MTRTin Shui Wai Station, via Ha Tsuen.

This route only provides services during peak hours from Monday to Friday. It mainly facilitates passengers in the northern part of Ha Tsuen and Lau Fau Shan to access the MTR Tuen Ma Line.

History[]

Introducing Background[]

Route K65 passes through Hang Mei Tsuen, a section of Ping Ha Road with many windings and narrow roads, and heavy vehicles are often used. On weekdays, short buses are needed to ensure passenger flow, but there are restrictions on Castle Peak Road - Yuen Long, which is often congested and the driving time is unreasonably extended. Therefore, short-distance special services are provided between Lau Fau Shan and Tin Shui Wai during peak hours on weekdays and holidays.

As the operator of New Territories GMB Route 34 proposed to cease the operation of the relevant route in March 2022, the Transport Department and the MTR Corporation used this opportunity to propose splitting off Route K65 into a short-distance branch line that only reaches Tin Shui Wai Station. K65A, to effectively utilize resources, and is planned to be implemented on 24 April of the same year.^[1]

However, in the original plan, Route K65, which can run directly to Yuen Long, needed to be significantly reduced to a frequency of 20-30 minutes, which was strongly opposed by district councilors. In the end, the Transport Department revised the plan and changed this route to only serve during peak hours from Monday to Friday. At the same time, the main frequency service of the Route K65 would not be reduced, and the implementation was postponed to 27 June of the same year.^[2]

Fare Remarks
Children aged 12 or below and seniors aged 65 or above, and those using Personalised Octopus cards with "Student Status" or "Persons with Disabilities" can enjoy the concessionary fare. Elderly persons aged 65 or above using Elderly Octopus or Personalised Octopus cards and eligible persons with disabilities using Personalised Octopus cards with "Persons with Disabilities Status" can enjoy a flat fare of $2.0 per journey under the Concessionary Fare Scheme. Passengers are required to tender exact fare in cash or by Octopus card upon boarding. No change will be given. Holders of valid Tuen Mun - Nam Cheong Monthly Pass Extra, Tuen Mun - Hung Hom Monthly Pass Extra, Tuen Mun - Nam Cheong Day Pass and Tourist Day Pass can ride for free.

Remarks: The interchange time limit is 1 hour; rail to bus journeys are counted from the time the card is tapped upon exiting the gates (MTR Urban Lines) or upon exit validation (Light Rail); whereas bus to rail journeys are counted from the time the card is tapped upon boarding the bus. The interchange time limit is 2 hours for bus journeys from a confirmed Light Rail entry point. The interchange discount is not applicable to the same Light Rail stop or the entry/exit gate of any Tuen Ma Line stations. Besides, holders of Disneyland Monthly Pass riding free rides on MTR network or paying only the First Class fare of East Rail Line are not entitled to interchange concessions.
