Long Ping Estate Bus Terminus (朗屏邨總站) is an indoor bus terminus with 3 parallel platforms cum stopping bays located on the ground level of Long Ping Shopping Centre in Long Ping Estate and adjacent to Wang Chau Public Housing under construction in Yuen Long Town, Yuen Long District, New Territories.
The entrances and exits of the bus terminus are connected to Long Ping Road, and there is a reserved bay next to the eastbound route and near the exit of the terminus. At present, all bus routes travelling eastbound via Long Ping Road are diverted to the terminus for drop-off and pick-up, resulting in the reserved bus stops being left unused.
For all MTR Bus routes passing through this bus stop, the bus stop announcement system will read out "Long Ping Bus Terminus" (朗屏巴士總站) when announcing this bus stop, and the announcement screen will directly display "Long Ping"; and Route K66, which has this bus stop as its terminus, will be uniformly called "Long Ping" (朗屏).
Long Win Bus names this stop "Long Ping Estate" (朗屏邨) without the term "Bus Terminus".
History[]
Long Ping Estate was occupied in 1986 and was the third public housing estate[Remark 1] in Yuen Long Town. On 19 October of the same year, KMB introduced Route 68A between Sham Shui Po Ferry Pier and Long Ping Estate as the first bus route serving the Estate. However, the bus terminus of Long Ping Estate had not yet been commissioned and the terminus of Route 68A was located at the southbound side of Long Ping Road.
The Long Ping Estate bus terminus was gazetted on 10 July 1987[1] and Route 68A was relocated there on 27 July. On 4 September 1989, KMB introduced a special morning peak hour service on Route 68X from Long Ping.
In terms of local transport, with the commissioning of the Light Rail (LR) in 1988, the KCRC introduced LR Feeder Bus Route 670, which operates circular between Fook Hong Street and Long Ping Estate, while Route 656 was extended to Yuen Long Industrial Estate in 1991 and passes through this stop on its way to and from Tai Tong. To facilitate residents travelling to and from Tin Shui Wai, LR Auxiliary Bus Routes A71, A70 and A74 came into service in the 1990s. In 1994, KCRC introduced the express route K1X between Long Ping and Tuen Mun Ferry Pier via Yuen Long Highway.
When the Tai Lam Tunnel opened on 25 May 1998, KMB reorganised its bus routes in Yuen Long the following day by suspending the special departure of 68X and Route 68A, and extending Route 68M to run between Long Ping Estate and Kwai Shing Circuit. However, the opening of the Tai Lam Tunnel attracted a large number of vehicles to use the Tunnel, causing frequent traffic congestion at Pok Oi Interchange[2] and leading to serious instability in the frequency of Route 68M. Under pressure from District Council members, KMB reverted the original alignment of Route 68M on 14 June[3] and resumed route 68A between Long Ping Estate and Kwai Hing MTR Station via Tuen Mun Road to meet the demand of residents travelling between Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung.[4][5]
The opening of the KCR West Rail at the end of 2003, with a station above the river the south of Long Ping Estate, made travelling to and from the urban area even more convenient, and the cancellation of Route 63M on 22 February 2004 was accompanied by the extension of Route 68A to the Tsing Yi AR Station and a detour via Kwai Hing and Kwai Fong. Residents of Long Ping Estate also started to enjoy whole-day bus services to and from Kowloon in the same year, namely, Route 268B which runs directly to Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom, and Route 268C which runs to and from Kowloon East. Both routes depart from Long Ping Station, and travel to the urban area via this stop and Yuen Long Main Road, with the return journey stopping at "Yuet Ping House Long Ping Estate" and then heading directly to Long Ping Station, instead of passing through this stop.
In the 1990s, KCRC operated Route 95R between Long Ping and Sheung Shui stations, which was abandoned in January 2002 and taken over by another non-franchised bus company, and was converted into Residents' Bus Route NR95 for residents' direct access to the North District. The LR Feeder and Auxiliary Bus services to and from the district were also reorganised in 2004, with 656 being the first to be split into two routes, K66 and K68. Routes A70 and A74 to/from Tin Shui Wai and Route 670 to/from Yuen Long Town were reorganised into Route K73, while the newly introduced Route K74 succeeded Route A71 which was cancelled two years ago, but was diverted to run via Tin Shing Road and return at Yuen Long West. On 7 March 2005, the express route K1X ceased operation after a significant drop in patronage.
On 16 April 2005, the KMB Route 277, which operates between Lok Ma Chau Huang Bus Terminus and Yuen Long (West), was extended to Long Ping Estate, becoming the second KMB bus route to provide whole-day service to Long Ping Estate.[6] The route was subsequently discontinued on 22 June 2008, with Route 76K relocating its Yuen Long District terminus to Long Ping Estate as a replacement.[7] Additionally, to replace the low-ridership Route 263M, Route 68A adjusted its route in Yuen Long District and Kwai Tsing District on 28 September 2013, no longer passing through Kwai Hing and Kwai Fong but instead taking the Texaco Road to and from Tsing Yi directly.
As for Long Win Bus, Route A36 was upgraded to whole-day service on 4 August 2016, with the Yuen Long terminus relocated to Long Ping Station. Both directions now pass through this stop, providing residents of Long Ping Estate with a direct express airport bus service to the Passenger Terminal Building.[8] On 20 June 2021, in conjunction with the second phase of bus route restructuring following the opening of the Tuen Mun - Chek Lap Kok Tunnel, airport bus services were replaced by Route A37, which detours via Tin Shui Wai.[9]
