The North Lantau Shuttle Bus Route S64X is operated by Long Win Bus (LWB). It runs circular between Mun Tung and Airport, via Yat Tung Estate, Yu Tung Court, Cathay Pacific City and Catering Road East.
This route belongs to a special departure of Route S64 which provides service only during daily morning and afternoon peak hours, directly operating between Cathay Pacific City and Airport Passenger Terminal, omitting MTR Tung Chung Station, Airport Cargo Area and Catering Road West; the main route S64 does not operate when this route is in service with S64C in the morning.
History[]
Route S64 was extended to Yat Tung Estate in 2001, and in the following year, it was merged with Route S63 which was cancelled due to insufficient patronage (Route S63 was merged with Route S62 when the Airport Shuttle Bus Routes were reorganised on 20 June 1999). Since then, many residents of Yat Tung Estate have complained that the route is too circuitous and the travelling time was too long on the Airport Island, making it difficult for residents to arrive at different parts of the Airport Island for work in the morning, and it took them at least 30 minutes to travel to and from the Airport.
After repeated lobbying by residents and local District Council members, the Transport Department and LWB proposed at the Islands District Council Traffic and Transport Committee meeting on 19 May 2014 to study the proposal of splitting Route S64 into two routes, namely Yat Tung Estate to/from theAirport Cargo Area, the Catering Area and the Passenger Terminal Building, so as to reduce the travelling time.[1] The final proposal was to split Route S64 into two routes, S64C and S64X, during the morning peak hours every day, with the former travelling from Yat Tung Estate to and from Tung Chung Railway Station, Cathay City, the Airport Cargo Area and the Catering Area, and the latter travelling from Yat Tung Estate to and from Cathay City, the Catering Area (omitting Catering Road West) and the Airport Passenger Terminal Building in a circular manner, without entering Tung Chung Station.[2]
