The North Lantau Shuttle Bus Route S64 is operated by Long Win Bus (LWB). It runs circular between Tung Chung (Yat Tung Estate) and Airport, via Yu Tung Court, MTR Tung Chung Station, Aviation Fuel Tank Farm, Cathay Pacific City, SuperTerminal One, Air Mail Centre (Catering Road West) and Cathay Dining (Catering Road East).

Route S64 does not operate during morning peak hours. Passengers can use Route S64C which observes Tung Chung Station towards Cathay Pacific City, Cargo Area and Catering Road West, as well as Route S64X which goes straight to Cathay Pacific City, Catering Road East and Airport Terminal Building, omitting MTR Tung Chung Station.

As this route combined Routes S62 and S63 which ceased service due to low ridership, the routing was amended for several times to accomodate the original service areas of those routes, resulting in this route observing Cathay Pacific City for 4 times for both directions, which is more meandering than other Airport Shuttle Bus Routes.

Ridership[]

The routing of this route is meandering, which leads to less passengers travelling between Tung Chung Station and Airport Passenger Terminal Building; however, as it observes most places in the Airport Logistics Area, many passengers working there uses this route to connect with the MTR, which makes the passenger volume generally good. Besides, this route also helps alleviate the enormous demand of NLB Route 38.

As the journey between Airport Logistics Area and Tung Chung Station is not long, most passengers choose not to be seated upstairs, which leads to a fake bus full condition. Therefore Bus Captains and Supervisors may actively demand passengers to move upstairs to avoid waiting passengers to fail to get on board.

According to Bus Route Planning Programme and relevant information, the ridership of this route is as follows:

  • 2021: The passenger occupancy rate of this route in the busiest hour was 65%.

Related incidents[]

  • 6 December 2012: At around 8am, an Enviro500 (8502/PV7721) heading to Airport (PTB) was travelling along East Coast Road near the traffic light post opposite the Cathay Dining when it was suspected to have not braked in time and crashed onto a MAN 11.220 (C12/HU4030) single-decker bus belonged to Hong Kong Airport Services Limited (HAS) which stopped according to the traffic signal. The ground bus was pushed forward due to crashing force and hit 2 pedestrian crossers. A total of 23 people were injured in the accident, 16 of which were Cathay Pacific air crew. The accident directly caused the cancellation of Cathay Pacific Flights CX474 and CX475 between Hong Kong and Taipei, which left 200 travellers affected. For details, see 2012 Chek Lap Kok Bus Collision Accident.[20][21]
  • 4 January 2013: At around 8am, an Airport-bound Enviro500 (8406/NY6119) was travelling along Chek Lap Kok South Road and turning into Scenic Road when the alighting door suddenly opened. A male passenger standing near the door lost balance and fell onto the road, which left him injured.[22]
  • 7 September 20176 At around 5pm, an Enviro500 (6402/PE7245) lost control and shovelled onto the curb when it was travelling along Cheong Lin Road near a roundabout at Airport. The female Bus Captain was stuck afterwards.[23]
  • 28 June 2017: At around 3pm, 2 Citybus Enviro500 MMCs (one of which was 6512/UA3575 running on Route E22) was travelling along Airport Road towards urban direction near Cathay Pacific City, when a private car suddenly shifted from leftmost lane to middle lane. Two buses stopped in time but 6515 was crashed on its rear by an Enviro500 (8520/RG9091) running on this route, which simultaneously crashed on the front bus, leaving 22 people injured.[24]
