Controversy[]

At the end of 2023, LWB reorganised the airport bus route in Sha Tin District, among which Route A41 would not go through Sha Tin Wai but via Tai Wai, and the frequency has been reduced to at least once every half an hour due to the splitting up of the half-day routes A42 and A46. Even though LWB has increased the frequency of buses to cope with the Christmas holidays, the buses are still crowded. As early as in Shatin Central, the buses are already full, and passengers from Tai Wai cannot get on the buses, so the effectiveness of the so-called airport bus service to Tai Wai is doubtful. The reorganisation was criticised by local organisations and reported by the media. The Sha Tin Transport Concern Group demanded that Route A41 should be restored to its original routing and frequency, and that routes A42 and A46 should operate on a whole day basis. LWB insisted that the reorganisation plan had been approved by the District Council and the Transport Department, and that the frequency of routes A41 and A46 had been increased and co-ordinated during the long holidays, and that it only hoped to enhance the service of Route A42 in January 2024, and that was all. However, Sha Tin District Councillor and Chairman of the Traffic and Transport Committee (TTC), Mr Stanley Hui, pointed out that the TTC had adjourned as early as the middle of the year and the proposal had not been discussed during that time, and expressed surprise and helplessness at LWB's response.[30][31]

Related Incidents[]

  • 9 February 2004: At around 8:00 p.m., a coach version Dennis Trident (518/HU763) heading for Sha Tin was hit by a stone thrown from the Lion Rock Tunnel Road in Sha Tin, damaging the window of the car and injuring a passenger with broken glass. [32]
  • 11 February 2007: At around 2:00 pm, an Airport-bound ordinary version Dennis Trident (2008/HT8953) and a bus of the same model (138/HS6942) travelling on Route E42 crashed into a private car in front of it at the toll booth of the Shing Mun Tunnels, injuring seven people. [33][34]
  • 27 October 2016: At about 7:00pm, a 40-year-old man took other people's luggage from a Sha Tin-bound bus and alighted from the bus at Tai Chung Kiu Road, Shatin. Police officers approached and arrested the man, who was believed to be involved in eight other similar cases in the last two months.[35]
