Hong Kong Buses Wiki

The Kowloon Green Minibus (GMB) Route 74 is operated by Max Power Minibus Limited (駿浩專線小巴有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 12142C). It runs circular to and from Kowloon Station and Mong Kok (Sai Yeung Choi Street South, observing Prosperous Garden, MTR Yau Ma Tei Station, Kwong Wah Hospital, Yan Po Fong Street and Mong Kok East Station outbound and via MTR Yau Ma Tei Station and Shanghai Street inbound.

This route is one of the green minibus routes that is a hybrid intra-district and cross-district route, with Mong Kok direction being a Yau Tsim Mong District intra-district route, but the return trip towards Kowloon Station has to observe a section of Waterloo Road outside Man Kee Mansion belonging to the Kowloon City District.

History[]

  • 27 March 1998: The Transport Department (TD) invited tenders for 15 groups of 19 Green Minibus (GMB) routes, including one circular route between Kowloon Station and Ho Man Tin Hill Road[1] to connect with the forthcoming Tung Chung Line and Airport Express[2]. However, at that time, no operator had bid for the right to operate the service.
  • 10 March 2000: The TD invited tenders for eight new GMB routes, including one circular route between Kowloon Station and Ho Man Tin Hill Road[3][4], but still no tenders were received.
  • 22 March 2002: The TD invited tenders for 7 groups of 14 new GMB routes for the third time.[5]
  • 17 October 2002: Route 74 commenced service, initially running circular between Kowloon MTR Station and Ho Man Tin Hill Road.[6]
  • 2003: Changed to circular operation between Kowloon MTR Station and Mong Kok (Luen Wan Street), and a supplementary route 74S running between Yau Ma Tei (Wing Sing Lane) and Ho Man Tin Hill Road was split out from this route; on the same day, a two-way section fare was introduced and a $1.5 interchange discount was offered with Route 74S.
  • 17 March 2008: The interchange discount with 74S was cancelled due to the extension of Route 74S to Kowloon Station[7].
