Hong Kong Buses Wiki

The Kowloon Green Minibus Route 69A is operated by Smart Champion Investments Limited (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 12108C) under Min Kee Motors. It runs between Laguna City and Mong Kok Police Station (Prince Edward Station), takes the Kwun Tong Bypass Express to San Po Kong (Prince Edward Road East), Prince Edward Road West (→)/Boundary Street (←).

Although this route is an auxiliary route of Route 69, its service area is wider than the latter and its headway is also more frequent.

History[]

The Transport Department (TD), in conjunction with KMB, has proposed in the 2012-2013 Bus Route Development Programme (RDP) to rationalise KMB Routes 6D and 40, with Route 40 passing through Mei Foo and then directly via Ching Cheung Road and Lung Cheung Road to and from Kowloon East, instead of passing through the section between Cheung Sha Wan and Choi Hung. However, the proposal does not mention any compensation package (including other modes of transport or additional interchange concessions) for the section between Cheung Sha Wan and Tai Hang Tung to and from Kwun Tong.

When KMB consulted the Traffic and Transport Committee (T&TC) of the Kwun Tong District Council (KTDC) on the above reorganisation plan in March 2012, KMB met with strong opposition from the District Council members in Laguna City, who demanded that compensation be paid to LCCDC for its transport services to and from Kowloon City, such as by enhancing the frequency of GMB route 69. The Transport Department (TD) had already planned to extend Route 69 to Embankment Road, and later revised the proposal by splitting Route 69 to form a supplementary route 69A to and from Embankment Road.[1] This route came into operation on 24 August 2013 when the diversion of KMB Route 40 and the extension of Route 6D were implemented.[2]

Service changes[]

  • 24 August 2013: Route 69A came into service when it circulated between Laguna City and Mong Kok Stadium (Mong Kok East Station) (Embankment Road) to fill the gap of KMB Route 40 which no longer runs via Prince Edward Road East and Prince Edward Road West/Boundary Street.
  • 8 June 2014: Extended from Mong Kok Stadium to Mong Kok Police Station (Prince Edward Station) and circular operation was cancelled.[3][4]
  • 28 June 2022: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route. [5]
