The Kowloon Green Minibus (GMB) Route 5M is operated by Brilliant Way Limited (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 7478C) under Ma Ah Muk. It runs circular from Waterloo Road Hill and Mong Kok.

History[]

  • 1 February 1984: Transport Department launches public tender for 11 groups of 20 new green minibus routes, This route and route 37M was compined as the same series[1]
  • 22 October 1984: A route 5M entered service.[2]
  • 24 September 2021: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route. [3]

  • Passengers must use the same Octopus Card to pay the fare for both the minibus and MTR to enjoy the above-mentioned interchange concession.
  • Passengers can enjoy the above transfer discount at any MTR station / minibus stop that connects to the second leg of the route.
  • The MTR ride does not apply to Light Rail, Airport Express, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail, MTR Bus and MTR Feeder Bus services.
  • The MTR interchange concession only applies to paid rides. Unless otherwise specified, passengers using the Monthly Pass Enhanced Version or Disneyland Line Monthly Ticket (including those who have paid First Class Supplementary Fare) cannot enjoy this concession when taking the MTR at designated stations; however, if Enhanced Monthly Pass or Disneyland Resort Line Monthly Ticket holders take paid rides outside the designated stations, the concession still applies.
  • If passengers have just used the same Octopus Card for the Airport Express "Free MTR Connection," they cannot simultaneously enjoy the MTR interchange concession.
  • If both "MTR Fare Saver" and "MTR Interchange Concession" are applicable, passengers can only enjoy one of the higher discounts.
  • Higher concession amounts are available for certain GMB routes at designated MTR stations.

Ridership[]

The operator mentioned in TV Programme "Scoop" (東張西望) of 21 January 2014, this route was one of the minibus routes incurring serious losses. [15] The operator had already adopted a giving-up attitude, and even declared to apply for its service cessation[16], but eventually it did not work out.

Remarks[]

  1. Numbers placed after the model Toyota Coaster (if any) are only used within the transport enthusiasts, others (including the industry) does not use such names.
  2. Original plate number LB7978, was originally a vehicle on Sai Kung P.L.B.'s New Territories Routes 1 series/7/9, and was changed to serve on PLB Ping Tsuen Route in 2012, after that changed the plate number in 2015.
  3. The plate number once used to a 2005 5LS2 on Express Top Industries' New Territories Route 44A and Sheung Shui PLB's New Territories Route 51K.
  4. That plate number originally used to a 3rd generation of PLB Kwun Tong Route (That 3rd Generation after that changed the plate number as PA5903) and a 2002 5LS (That 5LS original Plate number KL2069).
