The Kowloon Green Minibus (GMB) Route 37M is operated by Brilliant Way Limited (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 7478C) under Ma Ah Muk. It runs circular between Wong Tai Sin Station and Tsz Wan Shan (Yuk Wah Street), passing through Fung Wong San Tsuen, Tsz Lok Estate, Tsz Ching Estate, Tsz Man Estate and Yuk Wah Street.

This route together with Route 37A are the major means of transport for residents in Tsz Wan Shan connecting to the MTR. The authorities categorised this route as an auxillary service of Route 37A, however in actual operations this route was seen as the main one and is even the officially most frequent GMB route in Hong Kong with a minute interval.; whereas Route 37A was originally the "Wai Wah Street" departures of this route with a less frequent headway.

Minibuses on this route will display the sign of (37M 毓華街), (經德愛中學毓華街) etc. for the convenience of passengers to identify the routes.

History[]

This route was originally a "Pak Pai" bus route introduced in 1964, but after the legalisation of public light buses in 1969, it was converted to a red minibus with a fare of $1.0 and was served by more than 50 vehicles in the early 1980s.

On 1 February 1984, the Transport Department (TD) invited open tenders for the operation of 20 new green minibus (GMB) routes in 11 groups, with a route similar to the above red minibus route (i.e. this route) being put up for tender in the same group as the existing Route 5M[1]. In June 2009, the Transport Department (TD) announced that the two companies comprising owners of the original route had been unsuccessful in the tender, and that they intended to set up a prohibited zone at Lung Fung Street to prevent other minibuses from entering the route. The proposal aroused the discontent of the red minibus trade, which initiated a strike by more than 100 minibuses on 28 July [1][2]. After discussion with the PLB trade, the Transport Department (TD) and the public light bus (PLB) trade agreed that some PLBs would be diverted to other routes, and a PLB stop would be set up in Wong Tai Sin at an alternative location, so that both red and green PLBs could operate between Tsz Wan Shan and Wong Tai Sin, thus making the operation of this route a success. [3]

  • 30 October 1984: Route 37M entered service between Wong Tai Sin MTR Station and Tsz Wan Shan (North), with the headways that time already frequent with a 2-minute interval [4] and a total of 12 minibus served.
  • 18 May 1988: To tie in with the implementation of new traffic management measures in Wong Tai Sin, after arriving at Shatin Pass Road for Tsz Wan Shan direction, the route was diverted via Ming Fung Street to Sheung Fung Street instead of Lung Fung Street; after arriving at Sheung Fung Street for Wong Tai Sin MTR Station direction, the route was changed to go straight to Sheung Fung Street, and then turn right to Fung Tak Road and head for Shatin Pass Road instead of going through Lung Fung Street. [5]
  • 5 December 1993: A new branch route was launched between Wong Tai Sin MTR Station and Tsz Lok Estate. [6]
  • 20 June 2011: The two branch routes - Wai Wah Street route (Tsz Wan ShanTsz Wan Shan Central)and the Tsz Lok Estate auxilary route - were split as Route 37A.[7]
  • 24 September 2021: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route. [8]
  • 26 November 2023: The Wong Tai Sin Station terminus was relocated from Shatin Pass Road to the newly-completed Wong Tai Sin Public Light Bus (Scheduled Service) Terminus. [9]
  • 2 March 2024: The discounted amount of the Adult Octopus interchange concession with MTR was increased to $1.0 with the designated stop at Wong Tai Sin Station, until 1 September 2024.
