The Kowloon Green Minibus Route 18M, also abbreviated as Green Minibus Route 18, is operated by Peak Scene Limited (速昇有限公司) (Passenger Service Licence (PSL) No. 4148C). It runs between Wong Tai Sin Station and Shatin Pass Estate, via Chuk Yuen South Estate and Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital.
The operator changed the route number from "18" to "18M" in the late 2000s. At present, the route sign of all minibuses and some stop signs still display "18" instead of "18M", but the two routes are actually the same.
History[]
- 24 November 1978: The Transport Department (TD) invited open tenders for eight groups of 26 new green minibus (GMB) routes, which were grouped together with routes 17 and 19.[1]
- 20 May 1979: Route 18 entered service. It ran between Tsz Wan Shan (North) and Wong Tai Sin (North) at that time, with the Wong Tai Sin (North) terminus was located at the current site of the Wong Tai Sin Temple Carpark between the West Wing and the North Wing of the then Upper Wong Tai Sin Estate.[2]
- Late May 1979: Due to the isolated location of the Wong Tai Sin Minibus Terminus, it was relocated to another car park at Upper Wong Tai Sin Estate North Block near Sha Tin Pass Road.[3]
- 18 May 1988: Following the implementation of new traffic management measures in Wong Tai Sin, both directions were re-routed via Nga Chuk Street and Chuk Yuen Road between Wong Tai Sin Road and Shatin Pass Road, omitting the section of Shatin Pass Road south of Lung Fung Street.[4]
- 2002: Wong Tai Sin Terminus was relocated to Wong Tai Sin MTR Station (Shatin Pass Road) following the demolition of the South East and North West Blocks of Upper Wong Tai Sin Estate.
- Circa late 2000: Renumbered as 18M, but the rollsign and the EDS sign continued to display 18 until around September 2011 when it was officially recognised by the Transport Department that the Route "18" was in fact named "18M".
- 2010: The Tsz Wan Shan terminus was relocated to Shatin Pass Estate following the occupation of the estate.
- 25 June 2021: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route. [5]
- 26 November 2023: The Wong Tai Sin Station terminus was relocated from Shatin Pass Road to the newly-completed Wong Tai Sin Public Light Bus (Scheduled Service) Terminus. [6]
