History of Bus Deployments[]

History of Bus Deployments on KMB Route 81C

In the early days of the opening of Line 81C, Leyland Olympian (S3BL, E-brand Genna engine, one of the buses used was S3BL345/EC6554) 11-meter three-axle buses were dispatched. Lai Chi Kok Depot (L) was dispatched for a time The same style of 9.5 meters (BL) was sent out, supplemented by Dana Treasure (D) and Leyland Victory II (G). In the 1990s, 11-meter three-axle buses were deployed across the entire line. Leyland Olympian (S3BL), 非Air-conditioned Volvo Olympian11m (S3V) and Dennis Dragon11m (S3N) were mainly used, with occasional special sightings of the Leyland Olympian12m (3BL).

This route was added air-conditioned bus service in 1991, using 2 Dennis Dragon 11M (AD). In 1994 and 1998, the newly released Volvo Olympian 11/12 meters (AV, 3AV) and Dennis the Dragon 12 meters (3AD) were added. In 1999, it became a route with a Low Floor Service and used Dennis Trident12m (ATR) as the main buses. In the 21st century, it was replaced by the Volvo Super Olympian12m (3ASV) Dennis Trident. In 2003, a large number of buses were added including the recently launched Enviro500 12m (ATE). Since then, this bus has been the main force for a long time (it was once one of the few large-scale buses in Sha Tin District and was called the "3 Black 4 Red"). In 2011, the Volvo B9TL 12M (AVBE, AVBWU, the latter equipped with Euro V engines, the former has been transferred away) were added.

As of 2010, there was still one Non Air-Conditioned Buses on the route as a listed vehicle (Leyland Olympian 11M S3BL450/FV5383). After the bus was retired, it was replaced by a bus of the same model (S3BL459/FV8281). Since the vehicle was retired on 26 November of the same year, the slot was left empty, making this route no different from fully air-conditioned service.

On 24 August 2011, this route was officially became Fully Air-Conditioned. The only remaining suspended non-air-conditioned track was a Volvo B9TL 12M (AVBWU194/PY7771).

After the cold weather, this route changed its main vehicle to the Enviro500 12M (ATEU, which has been transferred) equipped with a Euro IV engine to replace the Volvo Super Olympian, and in October 2014, the entire route became Low Floor and Escalator.

In order to comply with Low Emission Zone standards, this route was added to the Enviro500 MMC 12M (ATENU) were transferred onto this route in late August 2015 to facilitate orders on Routes 680X, 681P and 985, which runs through through low emission zones in Central and Causeway Bay

In 2016, Enviro500 MMC Facelift 12M (ATENU) was added. In September of the same year, the low-capacity version of the Volvo B9TL 12M (AVBWU) was added.

In March 2017, a new vehicle was deployed on this route, that being a high-capacity version of the Volvo B9TL 12M (AVBWU).

In April 2018, the Volvo B9TL 12M (AVBWU) and Enviro500 MMC 12M (ATENU) painted in "Heartbeat of the City" livery were added to the fleet. The route was rejoined with a bus with the electronic payment system eDUDU installed. It was replaced by the semi-deluxe version (E5T) of the same model one month later, and it rejoined again in the same month in 2022, gradually replacing Enviro500, which has been in use for fifteen years.
