The New Territories Bus Route 78S is operated by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB). It runs between Sheung Shui and Sha Tau Kok, via Fanling Station and Heung Yuen Wai Highway, which belongs to a special departure of Route 78K that provides outbound and inbound service during daily daytime non-peak hours.
Despite having both termini in North District, Heung Yuen Wai Highway (Lung Shan Tunnel between Lung Shan and Fanling Highway Interchange) belongs to Tai Po District, with Sha Tau Kok bound even stopping at Fanling Highway BBI in Tai Po District, making it a mixed cross-district and intra-district route.
History[]
- 1 January 2024: Route 78S entered service in conjunction with the Second Phase Opening-up of Sha Tau Kok.[1][2]
- 10 June 2024:[3][4]
- Rerouted via Heung Yuen Wai Highway and omitted Sha Tau Kok Road - Lung Yeuk Tau and Ma Mei Ha sections, with Sheung Shui bound additionally rerouting via Pak Wo Road;
- For Sha Tau Kok direction, bus stops at "Luen Wo Hui Playground" and "Green Code" on Sha Tau Kok Road - Lung Yeuk Tau were cancelled and new stops at "Fanling Highway BBI" and stops along Sha Tau Kok Road - Wo Hang to Shek Chung Au sections were added;
- For Sheung Shui direction, bus stops at "On Lok Tsuen", "Lok Wo Street Fanling" on Sha Tau Kok Road - Lung Yeuk Tau, "Fanling Station BBI BBI - Cheung Wah Estate" on San Wan Road and "Fanling Station BBI BBI - Fanling Station" on Fanling Station Road were cancelled, and new stops along Sha Tau Kok Road - Shek Chung Au to Wo Hang sections, as well as "Yan Shing Court" and "Fanling Station BBI - Fung Ying Seen Koon" on Pak Wo Road were added;
- Service hours were adjusted:
- The service time on Mondays to Fridays from Sheung Shui were adjusted to 09:30 and 11:45, and that from Sha Tau Kok to 15:15 and 16:55;
- The service time on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from Sheung Shui were adjusted to 09:30, 10:30 and 11:30, and that from Sha Tau Kok to 14:55, 15:55 and 16:55.
- Rerouted via Heung Yuen Wai Highway and omitted Sha Tau Kok Road - Lung Yeuk Tau and Ma Mei Ha sections, with Sheung Shui bound additionally rerouting via Pak Wo Road;
