The New Territories Bus Route 43D is operated by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB). It runs one-way from Tsing Yi (Cheung Wang Estate) to Kwai Shing only during school days on Mondays to Fridays, facilitating students living in Tsing Yi South to attend schools at Kwai Fong and Kwai Shing Circuit school areas. It is categorised as a special service to Route 43.

History

Commencing background

The areas of Cheung Wang, Cheung Hang in Tsing Yi West and Cheung On in Tsing Yi North are already served by the whole-day green minibus route 407 and the supplementary route 407B on school days, providing direct access to the Kwai Shing Circuit school area. However, Cheung Hong and Cheung Ching in Tsing Yi South have long lacked corresponding public transport services, forcing students to transfer to other modes of transport at Kwai Fong to reach Kwai Shing, causing considerable inconvenience.

In response, Kowloon Motor Bus and the Transport Department proposed in the2017-2018 Bus Route Planning Programme to redeploy resources from routes 43 and 43A to introduce a special morning peak service from Cheung Wang to Kwai Shing (Central), designated as route 43D. The new route would follow Route 43A to the Osman Ramju Sadick Memorial Sports Centre stop on Hing Fong Road, then proceeds directly up ai Wo Hau Road to enter Kwai Shing Circuit (upper section), omitting North Kwai Chung, with the service operating on school days (Monday to Friday) with one departure at 07:10 and another at 07:25.

Route change history

• 29 August 2017: Route 43D entered service, running one-way from Cheung Wang to Kwai Shing West Estate and departing at 07:10 and 07:25 on school days.
• 15 January 2018: The last bus time was advanced by 5 minutes to 07:20.
• 3 September 2018: Extended from Kwai Shing West Estate to Kwai Shing:
  • After reaching "Kwai Shing West Estate" stop, the route would continue along Kwai Luen Road to Kwai Shing Circuit, and the journey would terminate at "South Kwai Chung Polyclinic" stop after calling at "Kwai Shing Swimming Pool" stop;
  • The departure times were changed to 07:00 and 07:10.

Fare Remarks

Half-fare for children aged below 12 and senior citizens aged 65 or above; the remainder of the fare after half-fare will be counted as 10 cents. Elderly persons aged 65 or above using Senior Octopus Cards or Personalised Octopus cards, Hong Kong residents aged 60 to 64 using JoyYou Card, and eligible persons with disabilities using Personalised Octopus cards with "Persons with Disabilities Status" can enjoy a flat fare of $2.0 per journey under the $2 Concessionary Fare. If the concessionary fare for eligible persons with disabilities aged below 12 and senior citizens aged 65 or above is less than $2.0 after a 50% discount from the regular fare, the beneficiary is only required to pay the original concessionary fare; if the original full fare for Hong Kong residents aged 60 to 64 or eligible persons with disabilities is already less than $2.0, the beneficiary is also only required to pay the original full fare. Passengers are required to tender exact fare by cash or by Octopus card when boarding. No exact change will be given. Passengers can also pay their fares through a variety of electronic payment tools (e-payment system), including using contactless VISA, JCB Card, MasterCard, UnionPay, American Express, Discover Card, Diners Club International Credit Card, UnionPay Credit Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, AlipayHK "EasyGo" and UnionPay "QuickPass", BoC Pay "Ride Code" and WeChat Pay HK or WeChat "Ride Code". Passengers using this payment method are not eligible for the interchange concessions with non-KMB/LWB routes, nor are they eligible for the "Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme" and "Public Transport Fare Concession Scheme for the Elderly and Eligible Persons with Disabilities". This route has no section fares.
