The New Territories Bus Route 276B is operated by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB). It runs between Tin Fu and Sheung Shui (Choi Yuen), via Hong Kong Wetland Park, Kingswood Villas, Tin Tsz Estate, Yuen Long Highway, San Tin Highway, Lok Ma Chau Huang Bus Terminus, Fanling Highway and MTR Sheung Shui Station.

This route belongs to the full-day special departure of Route 276A, with its service targets are mainly passengers in eastern Tin Shui Wai, and it makes a detour via Lok Ma Chau on the San Tin Highway, showing a stark contrast with the main route which serves western Tin Shui Wai.

History[]

Background[]

In the past, only Route 276A went straight to northern Tin Shui Wai, but it has a meandering routing and took half an hour to travel through Tin Shui Wai. Some coach operators had the opportunity to begin unlicensed, illegal express routes to the northwest of Tin Shui Wai, which was nearly twice as fast as Route 276A, thus attracting a large number of passengers. However, due to a large number of passengers waiting for the buses, it has caused nuisance to nearby residents and blocked the traffic in the Estate, thus causing nuisance problems for residents; in addition, these illegal resident bus services lacked sufficient safety guarantees for passengers.

In order to solve the problem of illegal, unlicensed resident bus services, KMB submitted a plan to the Transport Department in mid-2003 to add a special service for Route 276A buses which only observe Tin Shui Wai North. Later, in the 2004-2005 Bus Route Development Plan, it was proposed to commence new Route 276B having the same terminus as Route 276A. It passes through Tin Shui Road, Tin Tsz Estate and Lok Ma Chau, and at the same time diverting Route 276A away from eastern Tin Shui Wai. Due to a shortage of bus platforms at Tin Heng, the commencement of this route required the prior change of KCR Bus Route K76 into a circular route.

Route Changes[]

  • 4 July 2004: Route 276B commenced service.
  • 28 February 2005: Tin Shui Wai terminus was moved to Tin Fu Bus Terminus via Wetland Park Road in both directions:

    • For Tin Fu direction, buses would first observe Wetland Park Road to Tin Yat Estate, and then return to Tin Fu Court from Tin Kwai Road, Tin Sau Road and Tin Wah Road.
    • An intermediate stop at "Grandeur Terrace" on Wetland Park Road was added for both directions, whereas stops at "Lynwood Court" on Tin Wah Road, "Tin Sau Road" on Tin Kwai Road and "Chung Ki House Tin Chung Court" on Tin Wah Road were added for Tai ping and Tin Heng directions respectively, and directions of all stops on Tin Shui Road and Tin Sau Road were changed.

    • For Tin Fu direction, buses were diverted by going straight from Tin Shui Road to Tin Wah Road and return to Tin Fu Bus Terminus, with intermediate stops at "Yat Yeung House Tin Yat Estate", "Ching Pik House Tin Ching Estate" and "Chung Ki House Tin Ching Estate" being cancelled and replaced by "Yan Fu House Tin Fu Court" stop.

Bus Deployment Evolution History[]

During its initial days of commencement, 4 Dennis Trident10.6m (ATS) and one Volvo Super Olympian10.6m (ASV) buses originally from Route 273A were deployed on this route. In 2005, a Volvo Super Olympian (ASV99/LV1012) was added due to route changes.

In 2008, to facilitate the Euro III-isation of urban routes, original buses (ATS120/KM1453 and ATS125/KP2709) were shifted to Lai Chi Kok Depot for service and replaced by a Dennis Trident originally from Route 264M (ATS20/JK1534) and a Volvo Super Olympian originally from Route 277 (ASV76/LR1187).

In 2009, running number 56 (ran by ASV42/KA9608) was shifted away from this route and was replaced by a Scania K230UB (ASC19/PB2225) single-decker bus. In 2010, it was replaced again by a Euro V Volvo B7RLE (AVC33/PJ7262).

In November 2012, brand-new Enviro400 10.5m (ATSE) buses were introduced to this route, replacing the Volvo Super Olympians and Dennis Tridents originally running on this route. In August 2013, the single-decker fleets were all replaced by the aforementioned model, thus making the entire route ran entirely with Enviro400s.

In November 2014, Volvo Super Olympian12m (AVW) buses originally from Route 264M joined this route to replace some Enviro400s (ATSE), which marks the first appearance of 12m buses on this route. Later, Volvo B9TLs (AVBE, AVBWU) and Enviro500 12m (ATE) joined as well, which were again replaced by Neoplan Centroliner 12m (AP).

In August 2018, as Neoplan Centroliner (AP) buses were retiring, Volvo Super Olympian 12m buses (3ASV, withdrawn less than a month later) replaced its position and later with Volvo B9TLs (AVBWU) originally from Route 60X. In September, the whole route was replaced with Dennis Trident 12m buses (ATR), and in December replaced by Enviro500 MMC 12m (ATENU).

In May 2023, the whole route was replaced with Volvo B8L 12m (V6B).
