Bus deployment evolution history[]

Bus deployment evolution history of KMB Route 10

Route 10 primarily operated with Dennis Jubilant (N), Dennis Dominator (DM), MCW Metrobus9.7m (M) and Leyland Olympian9.6m (BL) buses from the 1980s to the 1990s.

In 2001, Dennis Dragon 9.9m (ADS, now withdrawn) and Volvo Super Olympian 10.6m (ASV) air-conditioned buses were introduced.

The route was briefly operated by Dennis Trident 10.6m buses in 2002 (ATS90/KD3290) and 2008 (ATS1/JH4735).

By 2009, due to low passenger volumes, two Scania K230UB 10.6m buses (ASB13/NV5551 and ASB18/NV7801, the former still serving this route to this day) and one Dennis Dart (AA26/GD5192, withdrawn on 2 May 2012 following reduction on bus deployments to this route).

In response to Low Emission Zone policies, one Enviro400 10.5m (ATSE35/RV5848) originally deployed on Route 84M was transferred to cover Route 27. However, this change was reversed on 25 April the following year.

In 2019, the first batch of Volvo Super Olympian 10.6m buses (ASV1-49) were retired due to high age, which was replaced by a Volvo B9TL 10.6m bus (AVBWS1/PP9062, since withdrawn) originally deployed on Route 690.

In October 2022, the second batch of Volvo Super Olympian 10.6m buses (ASV50-100) were retired due to age, which were replaced by Enviro400 10.5m (ATSE) buses.

In March 2023, with the retirement of the route's final Volvo Super Olympian 10.6m bus (ASV100/LV8402), the route's double-deck fleet was fully converted to straight-staircase buses, becoming KMB's last route to achieve full straight-staircase conversion for its double-deckers. In May of the same year, a VDL DB300 10.5m demonstrator bus (AMC, since withdrawn) was introduced.

Ridership[]

With a meandering routing, a long journey time and passing through a number of busy road sections in Mong Kok, this route is susceptible to traffic congestion on the road, thus affecting the stability of the frequency and reducing its attractiveness.

According to Bus Route Planning Programmes and other information, the ridership of this route is as follows:

  • 1993: The peak hour occupancy rate was 75% while that during non-peak hour was 20%.
  • 2015: The occupancy rate during the peakiest hour was 57% while that during non-peak hours was 26%. The number of passengers boarding and alighting along La Salle Road, Nga Tsin Wai Road and Lok Sin Road daily was about 700, which accounted for 14% of the total passengers.
